On the short drive back into town, Number Two makes me download Lutris, the app that everyone on the payroll uses to stay in contact. It’s not fully functional yet, which is why contacting the IT company is among the many tasks on my to-do list once I’m officially on the job.
As we cruise along what qualifies as downtown, I notice that several businesses are already open—a grocery and general supply, a pub called the Wandering Salamander, and a ’50s-style diner plainly named Tommy’s. “Who is working in these places?”
