Twenty-Six Lunch Date “Hey, Kelly,” I say. My cheeks burn, even though they have no reason to. I’m not guilty of anything. “What are you doing?” Kelly Lockhart charges my desk, fumbling with her bulky, oversized pleather purse on one shoulder, her phone in the left hand, and her own massive key ring in the right. I swallow and remember that she is not the boss of me. “Rupert thought it would be good if I reviewed the settler files, to get to know who lives here and understand how they were chosen.” Kelly stops short of grabbing the folders spread across my desk. She squishes her thin lips together and tucks one side of her messy bob behind her ear. “Rupert told you to do this?” “Yes.” “How did you get into my office? These files are confidential, Lara—did you break in to get them?”
