Even though he had a private cell, he hated to admit that Charles was right—he was not cut out for prison life. The warden and guards experienced their share of turnover. Unfortunately, an unusually cruel and sadistic warden came to the Southampton jail and brought his crew of like-minded guards with him. The warden wasn’t sympathetic to Leander’s plight and moved him into the community holding cells with the other accused prisoners waiting or going through their own trials.
