Jakes walked away from the camp. He went on until he was within a mile of the pack houses. When he was sure she could hear him from that distance, he stopped. The man changed the plan. He was going to improvise. He just hoped his plan would work and Kurian wouldn’t be too upset when he found out, but he believed this was their only chance.
“Sue?” he called to her. He waited for a response, but none came.
“Sue? You need to hear me now.”
Seconds ticked by. Still, no response came to him. They were wasting precious seconds they could not afford to lose. Jakes began to feel the adrenaline surge through his blood. If he was found there standing with Rick, he would not have any valid explanation, and they could not get another chance.
“Sue, damn it! Say something.”
