Chapter One

970 Words
Four Years Ago Noah's POV: Hearing the bell going off, I stood up from my chair as my back made a cracking sound. I did not even realize for how long I was sitting in front of my desktop. As I checked who it was, it turned out to be Eva, my girlfriend of five years. Opening the door, I welcomed her in the apartment we share together and she stared at me with a face which said she could murder a person right here out of rage. What got her in a knot today!! "For how much longer will you chase after this dream of yours?" That was the first thing Eva said as she placed her bag on the recliner. "Eva-" "Aren't you going to try for a job?" She asked impatiently. "Not like you don't know what I want to do with my life? You came in my life knowing that, why are you making it an issue now?" "The issue is that there is a limit to everything. Look around, everyone you know, got a job, hell your best friend is going to propose his girlfriend next month, with a diamond ring at that. And you are still relaxing on your back here! Is this how our life is going to be? Do you even have marriage in mind? If there is then with what money? Who am I even asking!! You can't even afford a ring with the gigs you take up." I could see why she was angry because every word uttered by her was nothing but the truth. Still I could not do what I was not made for. "Just give me a bit of time, once-" "More time? How much more time do you need? It has been three years since you left the University." At this point, she was fuming with anger. "I have been talking to people. I'm almost there, just a year or two. Have some faith in me, Love! Everything will work out, I promise!" "A year or two? Are you f*cking kidding me?" She took a deep breath before looking me in my eyes. "You know what? I'm done, I'm so done with you." "Eva, you can not be serious. Just a year more okay? If I do not succeed than I will go and do what you say. Please, Love." I begged her with whatever I had left. "Take all the time you need. Because from this point you are on your own. Have fun." Saying that she left the room and I followed her. She started quickly packing her things in a bag. "You can't be serious, Eva!" "I'm dead serious." She said as she took the bag in her hand. "I'm asking you for the last time, are you going to leave whatever you are doing and take a job like others or not?" We always had a tiff like this every once in a while, even broke up multiple times which never lasted more than a day or two, so I thought her talks of leaving me was all bluff as always. "I asked for a year, so not before I give it a last try." "Okay then, take care, Noah!" And she started walking towards the door. "So you are actually leaving?" She stared dead in my eyes. "Keep in mind if you leave right now, don't bother to keep a step in here again." That was the last attempt to stop her from leaving. "I won't." I let her leave without any word. If only I would knew that she would not and that will be the last time I saw her until a few more years. *** Present It was the last place I expected her to be. But there she was standing with a hand on the knob of the door. I took her in. Nothing changed about her yet everything did. She did not look like she aged a day but still the woman in front of me was so different from the girl I knew. She was adorned in designer clothes and every accessories on her shouted money, I guess she finally got the life she always yearned for. "There you are, Mrs. Angelos." Michel called out, who had introduced herself as the assistant before. Mrs. Angelos- I did hear from a friend that she got married to a big shot a couple of years ago. But I did not follow up as I was too hurt to do so. But to meet up like this in this huge city? Who could have thought.... Hearing her name, she moved her eyes from me and entered the room slowly and stopped in front of me. "Mr. Martinez, meet Mrs. Angelos, she will be in charge of this campaign. And he is Noah Martinez, the celebrity travel vlogger I talked about." "Nice to meet you, Mr. Martinez." Eva held up her hand which I took and placed a soft kiss on her knuckle as I kept my eyes on her to watch how she reacts. Much to my pleasure, I felt her shiver against my touch and took a gulp visibly. As soon as I straightened up, she freed her hand from my grasp and looked at Michel and said, "I think I can take it up from here. Would you mind leaving us to talk?" "Of course Mrs. Angelos." Agreeing she looked at me and said, " Let me know if you need me for anything." In return, I smiled at her before she left. I nodded at my manager to leave as alone too, and when we were finally alone, I asked, "See no one to bother us now, what do you have in mind? As you clearly could not wait any longer to have me alone."
