The weak do not belong

John raced after Patrick. Even though Patrick had a lead on him, John easily caught up thanks to his alpha speed making him extremely fast. Together, the brought the small ice child in to the clinic, where Dr Peters was waiting. “Where did you find her Mac?” The doctor asked. “The hillside on the rocks. She must have fallen. I didn’t see anyone else around. I didn’t hear her, I only smelled her after she fell.” “You didn’t smell her?” Patrick looked confused. He was right to be confused. With the wind and John’s alpha senses, he should have easily been able to smell the small child, especially one that wasn’t from his pack. The doctor looked at her with even more questions. “She’s a Wolf but I’ve never seen anyone, wolf or other supernatural, with this coloring. She looks like she’s made of crystal ice. And she has no other injuries except this cut on her head. No scratches or bruising. I’ve never seen anything like it.” “Dr Peters, her eyes, they look like she are full of lightening and when I lifted her, it was like she shocked me with bolts of electricity. Pat, did you feel it too?” John tried explaining to the doctor. “No. I only felt that she was cold. I thought she was dying because of how cold she was. You were stuck, almost in a trance, that’s why I took her. I didn’t see or feel anything like what you’re describing.” “You didn’t see her eyes?” “Mac, she never opened her eyes.” Just then there was aloud bang of the doors opening and the boys father, Alpha Mac, and two elders came rushing in. “Mac, there’s an intruder? Do I need to secure our borders son?” John knew his father took pack safety very seriously. John shook his head no and simply pointed to the ice child. “It was simply a child father. She must have gotten lost. There was no signs of anyone else with her. She’s so small and weak, she’s no threat. I think she’s just lost.” With his son’s explanation, the alpha calmed down and the tension that he was radiating left the room. The two elders stepped forward. Elder Jameson seemed to not be able to look away from the ice child. Elder Jameson was the oldest elder in the pack and he was much loved and very wise. He was mated but childless and that broke his mates heart. John was told that Sarah Jameson was not the same Wolf she once was, that finding out she could not have a child changed her forever. She felt as if she had failed Elder Jameson. But he never doubted the Moon Goddess in choosing her as his mate and remained faithful by her side all these years. John admired the old man to have so much faith that he was willing to let his family name die with him rather than take on another to keep his name going. It was a very big deal with those in his pack. If a mated couple only has girls, one girl was asked to carry on the family name so it wouldn’t die. It was understood and an honor to be chosen. But the Elder believed that his faithfulness in his bond and in the Goddess would be rewarded somehow and nothing could change his mind about his mate. He loved her and he saw value in what others would see as weak. A shewolf who couldn’t bare pups was considered weak and useless. Often, they were rejected and sent away to survive on their own in the harsh wilderness. It was for the better of the pack too remove the weak. But since Elder Jameson never rejected her, she was allowed to stay, but she was Elder Jameson responsibility, not the pack. John felt bad for them at times, especially Mrs. Jameson. It must be horrible to know you’re weak and worthless and not only bringing down your park but your mate. No wonder she was sad and solitude. “No one has reported a missing child. Strange little thing. What odd coloring. I sense she’s a Wolf but I don’t smell her. No smell at all. Only the blood.” Elder Jameson reached out to lay a hand on her head. When his hand touched her skin, he gave a small jump and his eyes went huge. John watched the old man smile and whisper, “please my child, open your eyes.” It was as if he willed her awake. John watched as her eyes started to flutter and slowly open. “Hi.” She softly whispered. Dr Peters stepped up and started asking her questions. “Hello little one. Can you tell me your name?” “Bao.” John looked over at his father. What a strange name. She was definitely not from around the hillside, but where did she come from? “Hi Bao” Dr Peters continued, “can you tell us how old you are and where you’re from? Maybe tell us what happened?” “I’m 14.” John was shocked by this. She was his age but so much smaller than him. “My mother sent me here as a gift, I’m her treasure, her special one. She said she was sending me here to fulfill her promise to the faithful.” What? This child was making no sense at all. “So” my father stepped in, “you’re a weak abandoned pup who’s family didn’t want and thought they would burden you on us to take care of their burden because we are strong. No. We are not going to start talking in stay weak pups to weaken our pack. Dr Peters, heal her to the standard of what the law demands then we will send her away to the wilderness lands and let nature determine her fate. I will not weaken my pack for an abandoned pup of no known descent.” “Wait! Alpha Mac! Please!” Elder Jameson cried out,” please let Sarah and I take her. We have no pup and it would mean the world to Sarah, please. Alpha, it could restore her to the Wolf she was. Please gift us this pup. I beg you!” John could see his father was torn. He hated all weak things but he also could not go against the Elders request either without looking poorly to those in the pack. Both Elder and Sarah Jameson were loved just as much as the McNally family and if the Alpha took away their chance to have a child, it would make many in the park upset. But if he gifted this child to them, he would then be seen as merciful and caring. But could be risk his pack taking on this obviously weak child? John spoke up,” father, if Elder Jameson takes on the responsibility of the weak, and not put it on the pack, as he did his mate, I think it would make the Moon Goddess happy for our mercy to the Jameson’s and this child…” “Bao.” The child interjected. “Bao.” John smiled and repeated. Alpha Mac looked at his son and thought on his words. Slowly he smiled. “Mac, you are wise in your council. You will make a good alpha and make the McNally name proud.” He then turned to the old Elder,” Elder Jameson, if you give me your word the the child called Bao will never be a burden to the pack and is understand your protection and responsibility until she is mated, I will gift her to you and your mate to claim as your pup.” At that moment, Sarah Jameson burst through the doors. “Is it true? Have my prayers been answered?” Sobbing, she fell into her mates arms. She was thin and fragile. Seeing Alpha Mac, she turned to him, “Alpha, is it true?” John stepped forward to the old lady and took her hands. “Yes Mrs. Jameson. My father has just gifted you the child I found on the hillside. She is very tiny but…” Sarah stared at Bao. “The ice child from my dreams! You’re real? Are you Bao?” Elder Jameson looked as if he understood, “my love, she is real. This is Bao. She is our present from the Moon Goddess. Your dreams were right! Finally, we have our child.”
