It had been hours since John had met his wolf and his mate and he was even more confused than before.
Instead of a celebration, his father had emptied the great hall of the pack and called on the Elders. Never had anything like this happened and Alpha Mac was not willing to let John claim the weak ice child as his Luna. He was sure there was some mistake.
“Witchcraft! It must be witchcraft!” He was frantically pulling at strings to undo What had happened.
Elder Jameson sighed and spoke, “Alpha, please may I ask some questions that may help you understand what is happening.” The Alpha simply nodded and collapsed in his chair.
Elder Jameson turned to his young Alpha and the child he loved as his daughter. “I have a feeling that from the day we found you, Bao, we have not quite understood what you have been taking us.” The tiny girl looked at her human father with big clouded eyes and shook her head.
“You were never sent to answer Sarah’s prayers were you?” Again the tiny girl shook her head.
“No. I’m sorry. I tried to tell you but Everyone heard me but no one listened. You only heard what you wanted to hear. So I waited until it was time for you to listen. Now is the time.”
John looked at her as if seeing her for the first time. She was nothing of what he was told his mate would be, but he also wanted to trust in his wolf and keep faith in the Moon Goddess. He also knew his father would never give the pack to him if he thought he was weak and having a weak mate made him weak. John knew that whatever choice he made would not only effect him but his pack forever and he wanted to listen to Bao. He had a feeling she had the answers he was looking for.
With kindness in his voice, he spoke to her gently, “Bao, I’m sorry I haven’t listened. I think you’ve been telling me things that I didn’t understand. Will you help me? Please, help me understand why these things are happening.”
She turned her small body so she was square in front on him. Then she pulled his hand so he sat before her. Never would he have done that in the past, lower himself to the weak, but when he did, he realized he could see into her eyes. Her eyes pulled him into her mind and he finally was able to see her.
She calmly spoke. “I am Bao, a package of sorts, given from the Moon Goddess herself to the McNally pack. When you found me, Mother Goddess had dropped me from the heavens to be found by my mate, you John. You ignored the feelings of the bond because I was not what you thought I was to be physically. All the signs were there. The Goddess made them strong so you would recognize them as signs of the mate bond but you chose to ignore them.” John thought about feeling lightening when he touched her. He had always been told that you could feel your mate by touch, that he would feel tingly at her touch and the stronger the bond, the stronger the feeling. Did this mean that their bond was so strong that it felt like lightening?
She smiled at him, “You can understand now can you not?” She laughed and John thought it was the most beautiful sound.
“It was you? It was always you? But you are nothing of what I was promised. I was told I needed to be strong, to become perfect, to deserve the perfect Luna. Bao, I’m don’t want to hurt your feelings, but you are weak. How can I choose you to be my Luna and protect our pack when you cannot even protect yourself?”
At this remark, John saw the lightening flash in her eyes. Her face, however, stayed very calm. He was starting to suspect his tiny mate had amazing control over her emotions.
“A strong quality for a Luna to have.” John thought. “Wait… did I just describe her as strong?”
“Once again, you are not listening. I am a package. My human form is the package that holds the treasure of the goddess and because I hold the treasure, there are reasons why my I look small and weak. Many want to take the treasure that you have been given. Many have looked. But who would look at me as the package to hold something precious? What you see as weak is actually one of my many defenses that the goddess has gifted to me.” John stared at her in awe.
“What other defense do you have?” John questioned.
“I can stop time for my mate.” She simply shrugged.
“What? Stop time? What do you mean?” John was suddenly aware that everyone around him was frozen in time. Not even the clock hands moved. “Why is this a defense?” John questioned.
“I can do this so I can speak to you and only you. To keep me safe, many things about my defenses must be kept secret. I’m only to trust them to my mate. I can stop time to keep others from hearing what we discuss. That way we are sure our secrets are always safe. Whenever you want to talk to me in secret, you simply sit down and look me straight into my eyes and when you see the storm coming, the storm holds back time from moving forward. The storm within me is strong.”
John was amazed. “Is there anything else I need to know?”
“Oh my love, there’s so much you must learn but I can tell you no more until you make a choice. You must choose to either accept the goddess gift or reject it. Will you accept or reject me John?”
John thought and realized, “ once you tell my father about you, your defenses and your power, he will no longer see you as weak and he will give his blessing. The pack will accept you and see you’re worthy of the title! It’ll be okay once we tell…”
“John! You cannot! You cannot speak of anything told to you while time is stopped. If you choose me, your father, your pack will continue to think of me as weak. Until the time the goddess sees fit for them to see, they will be blinded. You will have to fight to take your place. People you love may turn on you. Certain members of your pack may loose faith in you, in your abilities. If you tell others what I am or Choose to reject me, the moon Goddess will withdraw her favor and her gift. She will take me back and you will loose Axel. He is the calm to the storm and they can never be apart without devastation and destruction. So you must choose. And you must choose completely on faith. I cannot tell you anymore. You can take as long as you like. You can ask me questions, I may not be able to answer them but those I can, I will. You must have faith in the Moon Goddess but also in me. And once you choose there’s no going back.”
