Chapter 4. When Infatuation Turns Into Love
Patricia's POV
I woke up around three in the morning and saw Sam sleeping on the other sofa. I stood up and gave her a blanket.
"Thank you for coming. You saved me."
I held her hand and gazed at her for a moment. I bet she's beautiful with or without makeup. I don't know why, but I feel happy when she's around. She's different from anyone I've met, especially in London. With her, I feel genuine happiness. I hope that if the time comes, she won't change. I didn't know what I was doing, but yeah, I kissed her forehead. I stood up abruptly and went to my room...
Samantha's POV
I woke up to the sunlight shining on my face. It's already morning, and I glanced at the other sofa, but Patricia wasn't there. I wonder where she went. I got up and lazily scanned her house.
Now I noticed how beautiful Pat's house is. I paused in front of an art gallery hanging on the wall. I didn't quite understand the drawing because it's abstract, but it seemed to convey sadness.
What could it mean?
"You love painting too?"
I was startled when someone suddenly spoke behind me. This girl really likes to surprise people, tsk.
"Hmm... Not really. I just looked at it because it's beautiful."
"Do you know the meaning of that?"
"No, not really. I'm not into painting, so I don't know the meaning of any artwork."
"It's about a woman who chooses to be blind to avoid seeing the harsh realities of the world. She wants to escape from reality, to be exact."
Wow, that's deep. She must really love painting...
"But why blind? Do you have to choose to be blind to escape?"
"Well, sometimes. Sometimes, being blind can help you cope with the situation."
"It can't help you. Because you're just adding another fuel to create a bigger fire."
I noticed that Pat was looking at me, but I pretended to be interested in the painting, so she wouldn't notice. I felt her approach and stop next to me.
"It seems like you have a lot of realizations in life, don't you?"
"Patricia, I mean Miss Patricia, we need to train ourselves because, in the end, we're the ones who will fix it."
The way you say those things sounds like you have something bothering you. (She smirked) "Have you been hurt?"
I was caught off guard by her question.
" Hurt? Well, I've been hurt many times, but I just cried it all out. But my biggest heartbreak was when my father left my mom, and mom and my siblings were left alone. Mom almost went crazy back then. There came a point where she asked me to stop studying, but I refused, so I found a way to continue my studies, and I graduated."
"Just call me Pat. We're not in the office, so let's drop the formalities, and... How I wish I had a strong mindset like yours."
"Why? How big is the problem you want to escape from? And, are you still worried about your status? I mean... you already have everything, I guess."
"Maybe yes, but one thing is still missing... FREEDOM... The freedom to choose what I want."
"What do you mean by freedom? You're lucky, Pat. You come from a wealthy family. You're beautiful and famous."
"Hahaha... Why? You're beautiful too. Maybe you have a lot of suitors."
"Suitors? I don't have any."
She laughed.
"Are you serious? If I were a man, I would definitely hit on you." My jaw dropped at what she said... What? I couldn't hear her clearly because my heart was beating so loud hahaha waittttttt I can't handle this.
"But I'm curious, what do you really look for in a person? What do you want?"
"You..."
Damn it, Sam... I'm only saying this now. Please, earth, swallow me whole hahahahaha
"Me?"
"I mean—- what do you want in a person, or do you already have a boyfriend?"
"No, It's a waste of time, and I'm not in a rush."
I don't know why, but I smiled at what she said. I'm happy because she's single. So, is there hope? Hahaha. Is there really hope? Or maybe it's just me who likes her. Now, my mind is a bit confused. I don't know if what I feel for Pat is still admiration. Whenever she's around, I feel alive. It's like she completes my day. At first, I thought it would just fade away, but as time goes by, it seems to deepen.
Fast forward... In the office...
"Mhie, my coffee, please. Thank you." She looked at me, but why did she seem off again? Did I do something wrong?
"Right away, Ma'am."
"Oh, Mhie... Can I be the one to bring it?"
"Thank you so much, Sam. You're truly heaven-sent. It's perfect because I need to get something downstairs."
"Welcome, here you go."
"Thanks a lot, Sam. Oh, by the way, take care of that, or else you'll be scolded by the boss."
I knocked before entering, and I saw her busy with paperwork. She's really a workaholic. I placed her coffee on the side and looked at her with curiosity. I couldn't help but tease her. She's so cute, especially when she blushes. Ugh... I'm really whipped for her.
"Why did you bring it here? Where's Mhie?"
"She had something to do downstairs (while smiling)."
"Doesn't that have poison in it?"
I raised an eyebrow and put my hands on her swivel chair and table, then said...
"Why would I do that?"
"How would I know? You might be planning something."
she nodded
"Don't worry, Patricia, my intentions are different from what's on your mind."
Her eyes suddenly gleamed. Haha, the blush on her cheeks even reached her ears because of what I said hahaha.
"What do you mean?"
"Just teasing you around hahah. You're so fun to tease, like a child."
"Hey! I'm not a kid anymore."
"Did I say that? It's just something I'm saying, you know?"
"Tsss.. Whatever! And who told you to call me Patricia here in the office?"
"It's better to call you by your name. Why, don't you like it? What do you want? Babe? Baby? Honey? Or love. Which is which?"
She's really fun to tease, especially when she's blushing. Hays... I was about to leave her room when she stopped me.
"Stop! Stay here. I need your suggestions."
She pulled me towards the sofa, so she could properly discuss what was lacking and what should be added. I sat next to her, and our arms were almost touching now while she was discussing. I kept looking at our arms.
"What color do you think would look good here?"
"Hmmm (while holding a pen) maybe pink or white."
"Pink? That's girly."
"Because it will emphasize the cover. If we use dark colors, they might not blend well."
"You're right. Some colors might not be compatible when placed together."
"What about this?"
I took her sketch and carefully looked at what was missing...
"Maybe you should remove this and not put too many designs in. It won't appeal to Gen Z."
"I'm adding designs to make the product catchy to people."
While she was talking, I felt her every breath, as she was so close to me while talking. I stared at her face as she spoke, and my gaze drifted to her lips. I can't deny that she's blessed with beautiful lips, like there's always a magnet pulling me to kiss her. She stopped talking, and we both stared at each other, not knowing why, but it felt like there was something pushing me towards her. I suddenly raised my hand and held her face. It felt like there was a magnet that I couldn't explain pulling me towards her... And the last thing I knew, our lips met. Yes! I kissed her...
What the heckkkkkkkk???
