Episode 2. I Can Drive
"Miss Velarde, are we heading straight to the office?"
"We'll make a quick stop... hmm, do you know how to drive?"
"Oh, no, I'm sorry."
"Tsssk... Useless!"
My chest tightened at her words, just because I can't drive proficiently, she immediately labeled me useless. Actually, I can drive, just not very well, and besides, her car is too expensive for me to risk damaging. And besides, I applied for the position of secretary, not her driver.
She's too much, really...
In the office...
"Mhie, could you make me some coffee?"
"Yes, ma'am," I replied before entering her office.
"Ugh, why is Miss Patricia always in beast mode?" I muttered.
"Is she always like that? Because I've never seen her smile," Mhie responded.
"I guess... Oh well, Sam, you can stay here for now. I'll go make Ma'am's coffee before her office starts smoking again," Mhie said with a smile.
Why is Miss Patricia so grumpy? It's a shame because she's pretty, but she's so stingy with her words. I wonder if she has a boyfriend? Wait, why am I even thinking about that? So, what if she does? Who cares...
Samantha's POV
It was already eight in the evening, and I stood up to tidy up my things and organize the mess on my desk. I noticed that the lights in Miss Pat's office were still on. Is she still here? She's always working so late. I was about to leave, but there was an eerie feeling pushing me towards her office door. I don't know why, but I felt compelled to check on her.
(Knock, knock, knock)
"Miss Patricia? Are you still in there?"
No response... Maybe she's already gone home. I'll just turn off the lights in her office. When I opened the door, I was surprised to see Patricia sound asleep on the sofa.
I cautiously approached her.
"Miss Patricia? Are you still here? Miss Patricia?"
She stirred awake suddenly, groaning in pain as she held her head.
"Ouch!"
"Are you okay, ma'am?" I asked.
"My head is killing me," she replied, massaging her temples.
"Do you have any medication?"
"It's in my bag."
I quickly fetched her medicine from her bag and got her some water to wash it down. After taking her medicine, she leaned back on the sofa, and I sat beside her.
"Is it still painful?"
"Hmm..."
"Do you want me to call your dad or someone who can take you home?"
"Just don't bother them; I can still manage myself."
"Manage? You couldn't even get your own medicine; what are you talking about?"
"Are you scolding me, Miss Imperial?" she asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Oh no, I didn't mean it like that," I replied quickly.
"Tssk... Can you drive? Oh, I forgot, you don't know how. Forget what I said—"
"I can drive."
Her eyes lit up upon hearing that I could drive.
"Seriously? You said earlier that you couldn't."
"I can; I just prefer not to. Your car is beautiful, and I wouldn't want to risk damaging it."
"What? Haha, you're unbelievable."
Wait! Did she just smile? Oh my god, Patricia Velarde is actually smiling right now. I've never seen her smile like that before.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked.
"Hmm, nothing. You're just so beautiful when you smile," I said, noticing the blush creeping up her cheeks.
"Are you flirting with me, Ms. Imperial?"
"What? I'm just complimenting you."
"Tsss, whatever... Are you going to help me get home or not?"
"I'll take the keys."
She handed them over, and we walked to the parking lot together. When we reached her car, she was surprised when I opened the door for her. She couldn't hide the blush on her cheeks but quickly averted her gaze as she got in.
"Are you going to help me get home or not?" she asked again as I started the car.
"Where do you live?" I asked, and she directed me. When we arrived at her house, she got out and opened the gate for me to park the car. I was amazed at the beauty of her house. Is she living here alone? There weren't even any maids around.
"Don't act like you're in a museum," she said as she walked towards the house.
"Is this your house?" I asked.
"What a nonsense question coming from you. What do you think we're doing here?"
"No, I mean, do you live alone in this big house? I didn't see any maids."
"I don't like noise. And when I was abroad, I preferred being alone."
"Oh, I see... Here's your key."
"Do you know how to get home?"
Her question made my eyes narrow. Did she think I was incapable of finding my way home?
"Of course, I know; I know the entire Philippines, Miss Velarde," I said with a grin.
"Tssss, then go ahead and don't forget to lock the gate when you go out."
With that, she entered her house, not even saying thank you. She's really so snobbish. Whoever her boyfriend is, if she even has one, I pity him. Well, I had better leave now.
