Layla “Sweetheart, please—” Mom began with tears in her eyes and I knew I needed to leave before I succumbed to her pleading. “I love you, Mom,” I said, planting a small kiss on her forehead and my heart broke in my chest as she cried silently. “I love you, Dad.” I said and Dad's face turned downcast. Without waiting for his reply, I turned around and made my way toward the gate. My heart sank in my chest as tears stung my eyes. No matter how determined I was, I knew there was a chance I wouldn't see my parents again. There was a chance I wouldn't come back alive and that should have been enough to make me turn back but I didn't. I kept walking. When I almost got to the gate, someone held my arm suddenly, stopping me in my tracks. I turned around and my eyes landed on Elder Cornwall. M
