A deal with the devil

Riya's POV A barricade of tears built up in my eyes and a twinge stung my heart, realizing that Casper had refused to reply to my messages and return my calls because he was in the middle of his mating ceremony. I felt bitter and like trash upon realizing this heart wrenching truth. Unable to contain my emotions anymore, I walked into the aisle, heading straight for the couple. Everyone else ogled at me in shock, whispering amongst themselves and fussing around in their seats. Among the gathering was Casper's cousin; Hiram, his usual blank and expressionless gaze on me. I stood before the couples and Casper blinked at me with a completely shocked expression as if he had just seen a ghost. "Riya…wh–at are you doing here?" He stuttered and held his mate’s hand protectively. I almost laughed bitterly at his actions. Was he protecting her from me when he was the real devil here? A devil I should have protected myself from all along. "How could you do this to me, Casper?" Words finally formed from my lips and tears streamed down from my face. It felt as if I was in a terrible nightmare that I hoped I would wake up from. Too bad, I never woke up from this one. "Riya…you have to leave. Please. We'll talk about this some other time." This time, I laughed out loud. Bittered and hurt. Was he being serious right now? Did he really just ask me to leave because of some other girl? “Baby…who is she?” The girl asked Casper, her voice timid and frightful. Oh, right. I was the devil here. Casper did not answer her. Rather, he stared at me pleadingly to leave. "How could you do this to me?" I repeated my question, my face basking in tears. "Listen, I was going to tell you…" "What in the name of the gods is going on her?!" A masculine voice thundered, cutting us off. I turned around to see the Alpha advancing towards us with the Luna by his side. They both looked dark with anger and as if they would devour me any moment from now for ruining their son’s big moment. "Casper! Who is she and why is she disrupting this ceremony?!" The Luna rasped out angrily at Casper. "Mother. Father. I apologize for the disruption. I…I…I don't know her from anywhere." Casper's reply stabbed my heart, completely killing and numbing it this time. I stared at him in disbelief, shock precedent on my face. "What did you just say?" "Young lady. I believe you must have lost your way. Please, leave now before we throw you out ourselves." The Luna's tone was harsh and hurtful. But I couldn't leave even though I tried to. My feet wouldn't move. It felt frozen and rooted to my spot. This better be a joke. Only yesterday, we were so happy and perfect. He had bought me my favorite mint ice cream and promised he would take me out to see some fireworks tonight. What happened? When did everything go bad? How did I deserve this? Lost in my thoughts, I did not hear when the two guards from earlier came behind me and grabbed me in their arms. It was when I felt their hard grips over my tender arms that I was brought back into reality. I tried feebly, to struggle out of their grips. "Let me go! I said, let go of me!" "You should be glad I’m not having you killed right now. Throw that piece of garbage out of this place!" The Luna ordered and the guards obeyed. They pulled me roughly away while I tried to fight them off without success. Most of the guests had their phones out now, video recording me. I had never felt so humiliated my whole life. All because of a man I had loved and gave my whole heart to. I watched his face as they dragged me away while I fought and cried. There was no sign of remorse in his eyes. He watched as if I was a stranger. As if I wasn't the same girl he had kissed and told he loved just last night. The man I loved had killed me. ………….. It was 10pm late that night and I was still out in the streets, drained in the pouring rain. I sat by the roadside, watching the cars drive by, half blinded by my tears and the rain. I could not go home after I was embarrassed and thrown out of the ceremony. I felt lost and forlorn and all I wanted to do was end my own life and Casper’s. I felt tempted to stand in front of one of the cars and let it run me over but I was a coward and couldn't do that. And that was how I had ended here, crying under the rain and shivering from the cold. I wanted so badly to make him pay for what he had done to me. For breaking my heart, denying me and embarrassing me in front of everyone. I wished I could destroy his life and that of his family. Suddenly, I felt the rain over me cease even though it still rained around me. Surprised by the oddness of the rain, I raised my gaze to see someone holding an umbrella over my head, his other hand held out in an offer to help me get up. I blinked, trying to clear my vision and take a proper look at his face. "You shouldn't let them see you weak. Come on. Get back up on your feet." The familiar, deep masculine voice told me and I hesitated for a moment before taking his hand and getting up on my feet. Now standing very close to him under the umbrella, my eyes raked the familiar facial features of the man before him. His beautiful deep bluish gray eyes, long hair packed in a low bun and very sharp jaw and nose. Hiram looked as handsome as he had always been. "Hiram." I whispered his name as if unsure that he was the one. "I want to make you an offer, Riya." He went straight to the point. Typical Hiram. "One that would not only benefit me but also help you regain your glory and get back at those who had hurt and humiliated you." How did he know that was what I wanted? Could he read my thoughts? I blinked at him and did not take my eyes off him. "What kind of deal?" "I know you want revenge, Riya. After everything you've had to go through today in the hands of Casper, the Luna and the Alpha. I can help you get back at them." I shook my head, bewildered. "How did you know I wanted revenge?" He smirked. The typical Hiram devilish smirk. "After what happened at my cousin’s mating ceremony, anyone in your shoes would want to take revenge.” He took a step closer to me, his body merely inches away from me now. His voice was dark, husky and had a siren effect. “Tell me, Riya. Don't you crave vengeance against your ex boyfriend?" I gulped and shivered under the cold. Hiram surprised me by taking off his suit and draping it over me. He was left in his white, inner shirt which had a few buttons undone, exposing his hard tattooed chest. Hiram was one dangerous person I shouldn't be messing with. I did not know why I was still standing here, talking with him when I should just thank him and leave right away. Almost everyone in the pack feared Hiram. He was the black sheep of Alpha Zeus’s family. I was only able to stand this close with him because of the history together we had in the past. One I never wanted to recall. "What is the deal?" I finally asked, holding my breath in readiness of the bombshell. "Help me overthrow Alpha Orion. Help me regain my rightful place in the pack and in the family's company. In turn, I will elevate you and help you make your ex regret leaving you." His deal piqued my interest and I stared into his ice cold, gray eyes, unsure of how significant my part in all these was. "How can I help you do that?" "Be my contract wife for a year. Bear me a son and I shall make you the most influential woman in the pack. Much more influential than Casper or Laurie, his new bride." “So, what is your reply? Is it a yes or a no?” I stared harder into his eyes, his words ringing into my ears over and over again. Somehow, something told me this was a dangerous deal that I should say no to and return back to my normal life. But the thirst for vengeance clouded my reasoning and I uttered the words that changed my life forever. "Yes. I accept the deal."
