I take another sip of my drink, shrug one shoulder, and return my focus to the vampire in front of me.
I give him my most alluring grin and say, "Well, I'm not hungry for blood tonight."
I suppose I have a nice figure, with slight curves and just enough roundness to my ass and breasts to entice people, and the outfits I wear to these types of clubs show off my body well. But the roundness of my cheeks makes my face look childish, even though I am nineteen now. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what the leeches liked about me. Perverts. Either way, I always feel ridiculous during this part.
I've had to get far closer to targets in the past, but it never gets any easier. The leech reaches out and tucks a bit of my strawberry blonde hair behind my ear. "Well then, maybe we can help each other out." I think to myself.
"Sugar, what is your name? He queries me.
"Seren. How about yours? Since there is no documentation of my birth, I honestly respond, "There's no need to lie about my name. Plus, all the kids born at the Base, where I grew up, have the same last name, Herne, which means mythological hunter, which I've always felt was a bit too on the nose.
Since we are not allowed to know who our parents are, we are all given the same last name. Following the Great m******e, we had no time for love or marriage. In our community, s*x is only valued for reproduction. The elders match people based on their powers so that the offspring will have the greatest possible power. The children are then raised by the elders, the men and women who are too old to go hunting.
I've always hated this tradition of ours, and I'm glad I haven't had to do it yet. I understand the value of repopulation, but I don't want to be made to feel compelled to have s*x with someone to have a strong child that I will never get to raise. I've been putting it off for a year now, but I know that won't work. All I want is a little more time.
I push such ideas aside for the time being, needing to concentrate on the current work.
The leech gives me a wink and says, "I'm Luther." in response to my query.
Luther glances back to me as the bartender mixes his drink, then calls down the bartender to get himself another. Vampires aren't allowed to become drunk, but that doesn't stop them from trying.
"What is your age, then? "You look young," he remarks, examining every inch of my physique before adding, "Not that I'm complaining."
And I've had enough of him for now.
I snap my fingers sharply with my right hand, and all of a sudden the room stops, myself included. People around me stop moving, mid-dance, mid-conversation, mid-everything, as if time has stopped and I am the only one here unaffected.
Though time hasn't stopped, it seems that everyone in this room has been frozen in place for a few minutes. Witches and warlocks are extremely strong, and we have potions and spells for almost anything. If we can't find what we need already, we can make one. This is why we were so dangerous to Maldrien; other supernatural beings have magic, too, but not to the same extent as we can. We can use and create spells for anything we might need.
I mean, what makes us even more formidable is that each of us has one unique power of our own; mine is the ability to freeze people and objects, but other witches have teleportation, elemental wielding, telekinesis, and a host of other amazing abilities. This is just one example of the spell I used to appear as a vampire tonight.
My ability to freeze everyone in a club makes it far too simple to put anything into someone's drink, so I find that I often come in useful for this kind of work. Of course, my powers have limitations, and freezing this many people means that it won't last very long.
Thus, I quickly go into my handbag and get the little glass vial that holds a transparent liquid; I then tilt the bar slightly and pour the liquid into the drink that the bartender had just prepared and was about to set in front of Luther on the bartop.
I snap my fingers again, and everything resumes in an instant as if nothing had happened. "This is so much less than you deserve, p*****t," I murmur as I place the vial back in my purse and get back into the position I was in before everything stopped.
Luther takes a large swallow from the bartender and I smile back at him, recalling his inquiry, and I answer it.
"I'm about fifty now, but I was turned when I was sixteen."
Most vampires are born, either from two vampires or one vampire and another supernatural, forming a half-breed; vampires cannot breed with humans, only other supernaturals. Vampires may transform people into vampires, but it is a difficult and painful procedure thus it is not done very frequently.
"Well, you look fine at sixteen. You appear so innocent and youthful. As Luther exclaims, "Ready to be defiled by a real man?" he leans toward me, and I had to laugh out loud fast.
I am about to suggest that we take this somewhere more private so that I can get this over with, but then I feel an overwhelming urge to look behind me. I can see that Luther's eyes are becoming unfocused, and I know that the Immersion water I poured into his drink is starting to take effect.
I turn my head so fast that a strand of my long hair slaps Luther in the face as I scan my surroundings from behind, but no one is glancing in our direction. This is strange; I've never felt anything like it before; it was like the itching you get when you know someone is staring at you, only a hundred times more intense.
"Whoa, Sweetie. Luther says, bringing my focus back to him. "Calm down."
Oh, I apologize to Baby. I'm trying to play it off, and it looks like the Immersion water is helping me because he buys it. I was just searching for a spot we could go to have some solitude."
A vampire would love nothing more than to have Immersion water slipped into their drink, but the key is to give them just the right amount; too much will make them convulse and cough, which will irritate them and draw too much attention from onlookers; too little will weaken them just enough, mentally and physically, without causing them to notice, which is exactly what is happening to Luther at the moment.
"I know exactly where to go. With an enormous smile on his face, Luther replies, "Follow me. "He finishes his drink and takes my hand, guiding me to the rear of the club.
