Raindrops struck the windshield at first drop by drop, then pelted so furiously the wiper blades whipping across the windshield could barely keep the window clear. Between the heat blasting and the drone of the rainstorm, I could barely hear my own thoughts.
"Next left," Kate said. Even while the landmarks appeared muddled, she sounded so certain
"But that's," Dean started.
"Shut up and stop undermining everything I say, Dean. Turn f*****g left," Kate snapped.
He said nothing, but the car swung onto a graveled side road.
"The road curves right and there will be a shelter for, like, family reunions and stuff. And a boat launch, too," Kate said, and exactly like she explained, the Subaru rumbled over the road, following the curve to the right.
