Betrayal

Storme’s POV It was late at night when I drove into the compound and came down from my car. I wiped the sweat from my forehead and sat on the dusty steps. “Living a double life has its own struggles,” I hissed, looking around at the wooded compound. My phone rang in my pocket and I fished it out with impatience. It was Selene, my mood softened as I received the call. “Where have you been?” She screamed from the other side. She had little patience with me and always made it her duty to reprimand me at every opportunity she got. “I had to round things up over at the pack house and just got home, I haven’t even entered the house,” I told her. “Good, because I’m on my way right now,” she replied and ended the call abruptly. What..! I checked the time on my phone, it was a few minutes to midnight. Selene was as reckless as ever, or else why would she come to this isolated area by this time? I opened the door and went inside. The living room smelt musty due to not being lived in for years. This house was the only thing left to me by my father, though I never got to know him. I had been abandoned near the bloodmoon estate as a few months old baby, and was taken un by them for adoption. I only got to know the truth about my parents and the circumstances surrounding my birth a few years ago. My mother had been a maid at the bloodmoon pack house and had run away after getting pregnant for her boyfriend who was my father. She died during childbirth and my father, who couldn’t take care of me all by himself had abandoned me in front of my mother’s former workplace. During my investigations and snooping around, I met with my father’s old lawyer who told me about the house he used to live in before his death. I took possession of the house and renovated it to my taste. I had been quietly moving my things from the bloodmoon pack house to this place without anyone’s knowledge. My phone buzzed. Zara. “Where have you been, Storme? I’m worried about you, I haven’t seen you since that night! Call me when you get my message. Zara xx” “Ugh!” I sighed. I had put up with her all this while because of her father, Alpha hunter, who was kind enough to bring me in and raise me to be the next alpha of the Bloodmoon pack. I didn’t love her, and was doubly delighted when during the mating ceremony, I confirmed that she wasn’t my mate. I’d always known, but there was that fear lingering in a corner of my heart that what if, just what if? I had fallen in love with Selene the first time A loud rap sounded at the door. “Storme, I’m here. Open up,” Selene’s voice sounded. I went to the door to let her in. “That was fast,” I said, taking her bag and pulling her into a hug. She clung to me and I breathed in her scent. She smelled like lavender. “Finally!” She sighed as she released herself from my grip and took her seat on the new sofa. “We can have our privacy and be free from the watchful eyes of that b***h Zara,” she added, placing her feet on the coffee table. She yawned tiredly and rubbed her eyes. “Let’s go to bed,” I said as I lifted her from the sofa and carried her into the bedroom. “Goodnight,” I kissed her and got into bed beside her. My mind went to Zara, at least she had gotten a mate. I believed this was fate on my side, I wouldn’t have to do much to get rid of her. I just hoped she wouldn’t suggest a bonding ritual because I wouldn’t know how to refuse. I slept off gloating over my luck. It was late morning when I woke up to the sun shining brightly through the uncurtained space in the window. I turned to look at Selene still sleeping soundly and I gave her a forehead kiss before slipping out of the bedroom to make breakfast for us. I was just spreading some butter on a piece of toast when the kitchen door opened and she walked in. “Good morning,” she mumbled as I handed her a cup of hot chocolate. “Good morning,” replied. “I need to put this place in order to make it more habitable,” I added. “You need to, the place looks hideous with all that furniture huddled together and everything still in cartons,” she said and dropped her cup on the counter. “But I need to go back to the pack house today. I have to be there to avoid suspicions. “Argh! I thought we’d finally be able to spend the day together today, I miss you Storme…” she said as she came closer to me. I took her face in my palms. “I miss you too, babe. We’ll be together soon, just trust me,” I said as I leaned down and closed my lips on hers. She kissed me back passionately and I lifted her off the ground. Her legs wrapped around my waist and I walked out of the kitchen towards the living room. I sat on a sofa, gently setting her down astride my lap. Impatient, i tugged off her flimsy nightwear to reveal her round succulent cleavage. Suddenly, a loud knocking sounded at the door. We jerked apart and she put on her nightie. I cursed loudly and stood up to get the door. “No, I’ll get it,” she whispered and shrugged on the shawl she had dropped on the couch yesterday. The door clicked open and a cold breeze blew in. Selene stood at the door, unmoved, like she had seen something that paralyzed her. I went towards the door and the sight that met my eyes made my legs buckle and I nearly lost my balance.
