What is Selene hiding?

1078 Words
Zara’s POV I got back home and went straight up to my room, I needed time to process everything I had seen today. A knock sounded at my door and Maya’s voice came through. “Zee, it’s me. Mind if I come in and talk with you for a bit?” I opened the door and she came in looking excited. She threw herself down on my bed and propped up her head with her palms. “Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you all day, you practically disappeared from table and you didn’t even let me know you were going out. My day has been awfully dull without you,” she rattled on, the smile never leaving her face. “Uhm… I went to the mall to get some pads. I didn’t have any,” I replied and sat down beside her on the bed. “Why didn’t you come to me? I still have some packs sitting pretty there in my wardrobe, you walked all that distance just to get pads?” She asked suspiciously. “Why didn’t I think of that?” I was embarrassed. “It’s fine, Zee darling. Have you seen Storme? I think he hasn’t been around, I haven’t seen him anywhere,” the smile had disappeared from her face and she wore a serious look. “He’s probably busy, I’ll check on him later,” I replied. “Ohh… and Selene? I haven’t seen her since the evening of your party, where has she been?” She asked again. “That’s true, I’ve been so occupied that I didn’t call her, I hope she’s okay,” I said, picking up my phone to dial her number. It rang three times, no answer. “What’s happening with her?” I asked no one in particular. “I haven’t seen her since last night. She was supposed to help me get ready, but she bailed on me at the last minute! And now she isn’t picking up my calls?” I was pacing the room now, anxious about my two friends. “I think you need to calm down,” Maya said, sitting upright. “Ouch!” I winced in pain. The cramps was starting fully now. “Hey, come here, you should be in bed. I’ll bring you hot tea,” she said and stood to leave. Once alone, my mind played back to the scene at the mall. “Lucien,” I said it out loud. The name sounded like a bitter-sweet melody to my ears. Who was the lady with him? Maybe she was his lover? My stomach sank. “No no no…” I chided myself. I shouldn’t be thinking about things like this, of course he would have a woman in his life. How could such a tall, broadchested, dark-haired, masculine man with cold gray eyes that made me melt on the spot be without a woman? My train of thought was interrupted by the sound of the door opening. Maya came in bearing a tray. “Here’s your tea, I brought you some cookies and chocolates too for your cravings. Before I forget, I saw Liam and he asked for you, I told him you’re sick,” she said, dropping the tray on a stool. “Oh Liam,” I replied her. Liam was the nice guy of the pack, easy going and rarely had issues with anyone. Everyone, even the problematic ones had something good to say about him. And he had a soft spot for me, always checking on me and giving me random stuff. “What would I do without you, May?” I added with puppy eyes and blew her a kiss. She scoffed. “You wouldn’t survive two hours without me, that’s a fact,” she added, laughing. “I’ll leave you now, get some rest, okay?” She said, tucking the sheets around me and turning to leave. **************************** I was deeply asleep when I heard my door creak open and the sound of footsteps walking in. “Hey Zara,” the soft voice said. I rubbed my eyes open. “Selene?” I asked, opening my eyes wide in surprise. “Yes, it’s me,” she replied energetically amd sat at the foot of the bed. “I’m so sorry I’ve been away, a lot of things came up that I had to attend to. I couldn’t tell you because I didn’t want to ruin your big day, I’m so so sorry and I promise to make it up to you… pretty please….!” She rattled on. “Okay okay, it’s fine. But why didn’t you pick up when I called you earlier?” I asked her, sitting up to face her. “You called?” She fumbled in her bag for her phone. “Yes I did, three times. And you didn’t respond,” I replied coolly. “Ohh… I see it now,” she said, checking the phone’s screen. “I left my phone in my bag, that’s probably why I missed your call. I’m sorry, Zara,” she added and brought out a parcel. “I brought you a gift to make up for it, and I know you’ll love it,” she handed me the parcel. It contained a gift box with a pink bow on top. “Go on and open it,” she said with a smile. “Wow,” I said as I unwrapped the box. It contained an elegant necklace from my favorite jewelry brand. “Awww…I love it so much, you’re the best!” I exclaimed and gave her a hug. “I knew you’d love it, I spent days on the queue outside the jeweler’s just to get this limited edition,” she added with satisfaction. “Thank you so much, Selene, it’s so beautiful,” I said and hugged her. I folded the parcel away and turned to face her. “Uhm… Selene, have you seen Storme? I haven’t seen him since last night and I’m worried about him,” I said, looking into her eyes. She looked away uncomfortably. “Ugh… S…Storme? he’s probably busy or something,” she stammered, suddenly finding the pattern on my wallpaper interesting. She looked uneasy. Did she know something that I didn’t? “Have you seen him?” I asked, taking her hands. “What? No!” She suddenly snatched her hands from mine and ran out of the room.
