“I couldn’t,” he whispered, lowering his head.

“Because although I knew it would all be sorted once I’d explained everything, that look in your eyes, the one you gave me when you thought I had broken your heart and let you down… that was the hardest thing I have ever faced. And I just wasn’t ready to face it again.”
“I had to come save you. I made the first move again by coming to see you, and I am now here, hearing your explanation. I came knowing that I might be facing the very same betrayal and heartbreak. I still showed up.”
“But you took your time, Alexa. You took your time to get to a point where you were strong enough to hear it. I never had that luxury.”
