Chapter 11

1003 January 24… Today was as boring as ever. Mother wanted nothing more than for me to get married now. Maybe she just wanted to kick me out of the house. “Don’t think that,” Melody, my eldest sister said. “Easy for you to say, you’re perfect.” I objected. Melody was married to Prince Julian, and she had two gorgeous children. She couldn’t ask for more. “I am not perfect. My life may be perfect,” She laughed, “But I’m not. Julian loves me so much, yet I hide the biggest secret of my life from him.” She sighed. Our secret. Our family secret. We were all witches. Supernatural beings that protected this world from other supernatural beings. Guardian’s of nature. “I like that,” Malika sighed. We were all extremely powerful. Our families were direct descendants of the first witch family. We could read each other’s minds, we could conjure up powerful spells. “Malika can make love potions,” Luke laughed. We all joined in. Malika was very…love sick. “Hey,” She complained. “You know it’s true,” I chuckled. She was known for making potions, all of which would make a person fall in love with you. “I like the idea of love, okay,” She said sticking her tongue out at me. “No, you like the idea of controlling love.” I giggled. She rolled her eyes at me and started stubbornly grinding her teeth. It was one of her impulsive tendencies. “The other impulsive tendency being playing a personal cupid for Aria,” Luke laughed. “Shut up,” I muttered. Malika and I were only a year apart and extremely close. But, like my mother, she was obsessed with my love life. “Exactly why did you agree to go to this ball?” Luke asked. We were all currently sitting outside, enjoying the last peaceful moments of this day. In about an hour we would have to all get ready for some stupid birthday ball. “This ball is not stupid,” Malika snapped, “Sir Klaus is the most striking man in all of Europe.” “Is it true he’s killed all his past affairs?” In asked jokingly. “Stop that,” Malika said playfully hitting my arm. Klaus was the most cantankerous men I had ever heard about. He was constantly aggravated and constantly in a foul mood. How Malika had ever gotten us invited to this ball, I had no idea. “He saw a picture of you,” Malika said in a small voice. “No Malika, please tell me you didn’t.” I moaned. Constantly interfering in my love life was Malika’s favorite hobby. “I told him you would meet him there. He seemed rather excited.” She grinned. “Aria make sure to keep a dagger with you at all times,” Luke said gravely. “Shut up,” I muttered. This was not good. “Those are probably rumors. Klaus seemed really nice when I met him.”Malika defended him. “How exactly did you meet him?” I asked curiously. “Well, his brother, Elijah, and Derek are really close friends,” She said. Derek was Malika’s best friend. “How is Derek close friends with a Duke?” I asked. Derek was a knight’s son. Elijah was the son of John Grigori , one of the most revered men in Europe. “Elijah and Derek go hunting together,” Malika explained. “That’s right. Elijah’s the outdoors brother, while Klaus is the tyrant.” Luke joked. “Anyway,” Malika growled, shooting our brother a glare, “Klaus is looking for a bride. And I said Aria was currently single,” She said softly. “Aria, you’re going to marry the devil,” Luke said in shock. “Would you all stop taunting me. I’ve already got to endure Klaus tonight, I don’t need you all reminding me of it.” I glared at them all. “I wonder if your children will inherit his maniacal tendencies,” Melody said, staring at the sky with a dazed expression. “Aw, that would be adorable. Little Aria’s and Klaus’s running around. And you’re both really gorgeous, so you have no worries,” Malika cooed. I grabbed the nearest thing to me, which was a quill, and flung it at both of them. It hit Melody on the forehead. “Exactly why are you hitting my wife with a quill?” Julian asked walking into our garden with a dead rabbit in his hand. “Melody and Malika are trying to get themselves killed, talking about what her children with Klaus would look like.” Luke choked out. He was practically rolling on the floor, laughing his guts out. “I heard you’ve got a date with the Tyrant tonight. Wear protective armor.” Julian mocked. “Do you all like your lives? Because I will kill each and every one of you in your sleep. You know I’m capable of that,” I hissed. “Maybe you and Klaus can kill us together,” Melody laughed. “Yeah, it can be your honeymoon.” Malika joined in. I glared at them all, wishing I could stuff my ink bottles into their mouths. “Aria, stop scowling. You need you get ready for the ball tonight.” Mother walked out into the garden. “Yes, mother,” I sighed. I stood up and watched as they all held in their laughter. “Sleep with one eye open tonight.” I glared at them all. They burst into another fit of laughter and I sighed. This was going to be a really long day. After hours of preparing, I strolled down the staircase in my black ball gown. These days not many woman wore black. It was a sign of evil and darkness. I just loved the color. Melody and Julian walked to the carriages, both in a soft blue color. Malika, being the girl that she was, walked out with a pink ball gown. Luke, my escort for tonight, came out in a white suit. “You owe me,” Luke hissed. “I’ll be suffering a lot more than you tonight,” I said, taking hold of his arm. We rode up to Klaus’s castle, which wasn’t that far from mine. Only about fifteen minutes away. As we walked up the front steps guards greeted us. Then Elijah stepped into the doorway to greet us. “Welcome to my brother’s twenty-sixth birthday,” Elijah greeted us. These Grigori brothers were really something else. All of them were undeniably gorgeous. And their sister was just as gorgeous. “Hello there,” Klaus greeted us. I stared at him in amazement, wondering how such a heartless creature could look that stunning. He smiled at me, his eyes giving away nothing of his emotions.
