The City of Light and Secrets

~ Chapter 2 ~

Sooooo it’s now 10:30 and I’m officially dead inside. Still waiting in the dark and nothing is happening. Celeste is so fixated its making the air around us tense up. I let my mind wander off again thinking about the festival, it’s going to be so much Fun! Humans would still participate in the festival but at night it became pretty messy, especially with the s*x parties. It was extreme to the point you would walk down the street and right, smack bang in front of you was a four-some or even an orgy in a supermarket, it was extreme. 

I was still excited though, this is my one and only experience with the New Moon Crowning. My human lifespan was lucky enough to even witness this one. Its also happening on my favourite time of the year too, spring. New life and new beginnings springing from the earth. The trees wilter down and at night grow larger, with glowing yellow veins running through the stumps and tree branches, the leaves turning into a light pink, sparkling on the edges. Every night the dawn is a soft orange-violet, with the clouds a purest white. At dusk, Its like watching the sky fall, with the stars blossoming in a silver glitter-gold, the sky turning a velvet sapphire and an emerald green, before falling into the darkest night. But the best part, is when it rains, because it comes from the stars, its pure essence dropping down, leaving your skin glowing by the touch.  

I shivered, rubbing the sides of my arms that are on the verge of frostbite. I leaned over and whispered to what I hoped was her ear but I wasn’t sure with her hair flying into my mouth “Celeste, we have been standing here for twenty minutes and nothing has happened, can we please leave-” She put up her hand and shushed me. I was about to call her a very feral name but peered over her shoulder and realised we weren’t watching the liquor store, we were watching the small door next to it. Oh my gods, it was a hidden strip club, I recognised the name, Pebbles. My brother Kace spoke about it being one of the places they have to raid on some occasions on his patrols for the order, but he wouldn’t be as detailed as to why.

“I knew it” Celeste huffed, she went to storm over to where Paxton was now standing on the empty sidewalk just outside the red lit door. I grabbed her arm and pulled her back, “Wait” I hissed, she whirled on me, and glared, waiting for an explanation, “You don’t know that he’s cheating, he could have been there for some other reason” but just as I was defending the bastard a woman, a Fae women, walked out swaying her red hair in the wind as she linked her arm with his, kissing him on the cheek.  s**t was about to get real, especially with Celeste. “Never mind” I mumbled. She nodded at me like I told you so, I rolled my eyes at her, “Saw that” she said as she stormed gracefully across the road and onto the sidewalk Paxton now stood frozen at with his brown eyes wide open. 

“Well, well. What a surprise to see you here!” She clasped her hands together and smiled like a huntress catching its prey.
