EVAS POV As Lorenzo and I settled into our seats on the plane, I focused on tightening our seat belts, avoiding his gaze as much as possible. I kept myself busy, shuffling through the contents of my bag, flipping through a magazine – anything to distract myself from the questions I knew were looming in his curious mind. I plugged in my earphones, attempting to create a barrier between us and the inevitable conversation. However, Lorenzo, relentless in his quest for answers, used his little hand to tug away the earphone from my ear. “Is the soon-to-be mayor my father?” he asked innocently. I looked at him, staring blankly at him as he asked the question I had been dreading. Unsure of what lie to concoct this time, I sighed subconsciously, my hand moving to his hair as I patted his head
