Chapter 3 Trending? Let's Play Along!

1072 Words
Inside the sports car, Olivia smiled at Marcus. "Did Eunice send you to pick me up?" Marcus confirmed. "She was worried you might get bullied, so she asked me to back you up." Olivia laughed. "She really has some nerve to think of this. You'll be trending tomorrow." Marcus looked at her with amber eyes and smiled. "You're my boss. I can't let you take the heat." Outside the CloudCascade Entertainment Company. As soon as Olivia stepped out of the car, she was greeted by the crackling sounds of fireworks, quickly followed by a shower of colorful confetti. Two rows of handsome men and beautiful women lined up at the entrance. Upon her arrival, they all straightened up and yelled together, "Welcome back, Ms. Martinez!" Eunice Roberts, the leading star of CloudCascade and a top figure in the entertainment industry, stepped forward and embraced her. "Congratulations on your divorce. Everyone has missed you so much. We've been eagerly waiting for you to return and take charge of the company." Seeing these familiar faces made Olivia's eyes slightly moist. CloudCascade was the entertainment company she founded before her marriage, having signed many popular idols and up-and-coming stars, including Marcus. Over the years, she had stepped back for William and completely neglected the company. Yet, to her surprise, they still remembered her and were awaiting her return. She embraced Eunice tightly. "I'm back, and from now on, I'll be here with you all." The crowd formed a circle around her and erupted into cheers. Eunice clapped joyfully. "That's the spirit! This is how it should be for Olivia Martinez, our billionaire boss!" Caught up in the excitement, Olivia laughed heartily. Yes, this was the real her! The true Olivia was meant to be bold, vibrant, and confident. During her three years with the Hayes family, she had been so subdued, hardly even seeming like herself. Now, looking back, she realized those three years were truly not worthwhile! Marcus whispered to Eunice, "Ms. Martinez is so stunning." Eunice didn't hesitate to praise Olivia. "Absolutely. Olivia had no interest in showbiz; otherwise, I would have had to give up my title as the top star to her. Her ex-husband must be blind not to appreciate her." After the crowd dispersed, Olivia accompanied Eunice back to the office. Eunice showed Olivia her iPad. "Look! You and Marcus are trending." Leaning back on the couch, Olivia asked with a smirk, "Wasn't this your doing?" Not a hint of awkwardness from being exposed, Eunice said, "You just got divorced from William. We needed to secure a favorable public opinion quickly, to avoid any rumors of you being ditched by the wealthy family! I just wanted to show William that you're still quite popular and desirable without him." Their trending hashtag was at the top of the list, but it soon dropped down, replaced swiftly by another trending hashtag rising rapidly. The headline read, "Mr. Hayes from Myriads dates Ms. Thompson right after his divorce." Olivia pointed at the screen. "It looks like you aren't the only one with this strategy." The comments under this trending topic were all about how William and Grace were undeniably a perfect match. Olivia, the shameless woman, was the one who had kept them apart for many years. Now William finally saw the true face of this evil woman and divorced her. He had deeply loved Ms. Thompson for many years, and at last, their love had succeeded. Eunice was furious. It was clearly a trending hashtag bought by William and Grace, meaning to challenge Olivia openly in the court of public opinion. "Grace and William are so shameless. William just got divorced and now they're together." Olivia slightly raised her eyebrows and said casually, "Eunice, do you want to make a big move? Since Grace used public opinion to humiliate me, I might as well strike a backhand and directly embarrass William." Since they wanted to play, she would play along with them! How could William and Grace expect to get together with the help of public opinion? Good things like that didn't just come by easily. She wouldn't let them have their way! Olivia thought, "How dare they cross me? I'm not who I was before!" Eunice never hesitated to stir up trouble. "Okay. What should we do?" Olivia clicked on the chat box and sent a photo to Eunice. "Get someone to post this photo and prepare the copy as I instructed." Eunice's eyes lit up when she saw the photo. "Olivia, this is definitely solid evidence. I will take down those two." ***** In the CEO office of Myriads. William had just signed several papers and fidgeted as he tossed them aside. He couldn't pinpoint why, but he found it extremely difficult to focus on work today. Olivia's bright and charming face kept appearing before him, along with the resolute image of her leaving with another man. Once again, the words "not taking a penny" echoed in his ears. The pen he was using to sign the papers hesitated. Did he misunderstand her? Was it true that she was not a woman greedy for money and vanity, but, as she claimed, that she married him out of affection? He quickly shook his head. That couldn't be possible. The man Olivia left with was obviously wealthy. Maybe it was because she had already found a rich man that she dared to divorce him so decisively. William sneered. What would Olivia do when the man discovered her true colors? Olivia was playing hard to get. If she sought to remarry him, William wouldn't just agree so easily. Henry Brooks, William's secretary entered, as if he had something to report. Observing Henry's hesitant manner, William's irritability only grew. "What's going on?" Henry, clenching his teeth, handed over the tablet. "There's some upsetting news about you online. You might want to take a look and decide how to deal with this." William took the tablet and thumbed through it. His face darkened. "Someone posted a photo of you and Ms. Thompson at a hotel. It was snapped before your divorce. Now the Internet is flooded with criticism saying you and Ms. Thompson had an affair during your marriage. Even the company's stock price has taken a hit." William's brown eyes darkened, his face mirroring the brewing storm. The air around him grew heavy. He forced the words through clenched teeth. "Who posted the photo?"
