"And hit the mark!" I released the arrow and watched as it hit its target.
"You did it!" I squealed and turned to hug my gramps who kissed my cheek as I did so.
"This really has helped me a lot gramps." He smiled at me warmly. "It'll be fine, you know self defense now. You can kick his ass."
I couldn't help nor stop the laugh that escaped from my lips. Two months ago, I broke up with Carter.
It's August now and I have to go home for school, for the summer I stayed at my grandpa's house.
My mom thought it would be a good idea to get away from everything, you know? I, of course, jumped at the chance to get away.
My gramps likes to hunt so he has a bunch of weapons, he taught me archery and I'm also pretty good with a sniper.
I also learned self defense and kick boxing which helped take my mind off a lot of things.
I'm a week late for school, not that I really care because I know, I'll catch up in no time.
"We should head back soon. Your mom is expecting us soon."

The time we reached my house, it was nearly morning. "Can you take my things inside gramps? I want to see Syl."
He nodded and I walked in the direction of Sylvia's house, she lived literally down the street from me so it was a short walk.
Reaching her house, I took a deep breathe before I knocked on her door and waited for it to open.
The door opened to reveal a sleepy looking Sylvia, she didn't notice that it was really me so it took a minute of eye rubbing and blinking before she attacked me.
"Oh my god!" She squealed, giving me on of her favorite koala hugs. "Oh my god! I've missed you!" I stated as I spun us around.
"I missed you too." She said as I finally set her down. "You're lucky I'm awake right now." She added teasingly, causing me laugh.
"True." I shrugged, soaking in the silence that we fell into.
"So are you coming to school today?" She asked, piercing through the silence.
I shrugged with a nod, smiling at her. "Yeah, I'm gonna go get ready. Car or no car?"
Sylvia hummed slightly thinking about it, "No car."
I quickly walked back to my house, as soon as I entered my mom wrapped her arms around me, "My baby, oh how I've missed you."
I rubbed her back soothingly, smiling as she sniffled slightly. "Same here mom."
As she pulled away, she flashed me a small smile. "I have work right now and you have school."
I rolled my eyes before placing a kiss onto her cheek. "See you after school mama."
Seeing as gramps' car was gone, I was guessing that he already left. Heading upstairs to my room, I quickly walked into my connected bathroom.
I was in and out of the shower in ten minutes, walking over to my closet I began to look for an outfit, "What to wear today?"
The weather was semi hot so, how about shorts? Yeah, no way that's happening.
I slipped on a pair of light wash denim jeans, a white loose shirt before slipping on my white vans and grabbing a black beanie.
I swiped on my nude lipstick before grabbing my house keys, my bag, and running out the door.
Seeing Sylvia outside waiting, I jogged up to her catching her attention.
"Ready?" She nodded before linking our arms together. "Oh do I have some s**t to tell you."
Oh boy.

As we began to reach the school and I began to panic,, allowing my thoughts to race.
What if we have classes together or what if he tries talking to me?
Syl gave my hand a comforting squeeze and I set her a small smile. We walked in and I could heard people gasp as they saw me.
"Is that really her?"
"Damn, she's hot."
"I can't believe she actually came back."
"Wait till Carter finds out."
Ignoring the gossip about me, I continued to walk along side Sylvia since I knew I would have a reputation here.
Fucking Carter.
"I'm going to go get my books okay. See you at lunch?" I nodded and hugged Syl before we went our separate ways.
There was a lady behind the front desk checking out her nails. "How can I help you?" She held boredom in her tone as she spoke.
"I'm here for my schedule." She nodded before looking through the papers scattered on her desk.
"Emily Reynolds?" I nodded and she handed me the paper. I quickly thanked her before walking out, and looking at my schedule.

Ugh, Mr. Harris is a pain, I had him last year but basically we go to different classes each day.
Today is an A day so I'll go to the A classes. You get me? Good, I'm horrible at explaining
Since I wasn't paying attention, I ended up bumping into someone. "Oh, I'm so sorry." I apologized before beginning to pick up my fallen items.
"No, no. It's my fault, I wasn't paying attention." I looked up and the guy smiled down at me.
As I gathered my things finally, I was on my feet which caused us to awkwardly stand there.
"Well uhh, I'll see you around?" Before he could answer I walked around him and went upstairs.
Can you say awkward? Because that's what it was, very awkward. Walking into my class, I was thankful it was close to the stairs.
Taking a seat in the back near a window, I ignored the looks that people were giving me.
I hate that I'm known here, f*****g Carter and his fuckboy ways. Okay, maybe I'm over exaggerating but I hate the guy with all I have.
It's normal, ish. Right?
The bell rung and Mr. Harris walked in, setting his things on the desk before closing the door.
"Okay who can tell me how many people died in World War 1?" I immediately raised my hand.
"Over 16 million people died worldwide in World War 1, including about 10 million military personnel and about 7 million civilians."
He smirked and leaned against his desk. "World War II?" I smirked and leaned forward on my own desk.
"Over 60 million people were killed during World War II, which was over 3% of the world's population at the time."
He looked shocked for a second before smirking again. "Battle of Gettysburg?"
This is just too easy, at least make it hard Harris.
"The two armies suffered between 46,000 and 51,000 casualties." He let out laugh, clapping which caused everyone in the class to as well.
"Thank you, Ms" He trailed off and I gave him a small smile, "Reynolds." I finished and he nodded before turning his attention to the board.
History was going to be a piece of cake.
