Chapter Eight Griffin I need to see you Will be there by 2 I flinched when I read Cort’s messages, and with a trembling hand, I placed the phone next to me on the mattress and slid the comforter over my head. Thanks to aspirin and multiple glasses of water, my headache was gone, but I wasn’t prepared mentally, much less physically for Cort to be here. We had a schedule. Every weekend he was off I would visit him or he would visit me, with occasional extra times allowed for federal holidays. This was part of the appeal to being in a relationship with someone living an hour and a half away. Changes to this schedule made me anxious. When Cort called Friday afternoon and said something important had come up, I had shrugged it off, and in fact it was a relief. One less thing to deal with.
