I walked down to the sitting room, taking a drink from the fridge, and ready to settle down, thoughts of Alison filled my head. When I remembered the real reason I came downstairs, I hurried and turned on the TV; the first news hit. The first-ever and the first richest female billionaire, who appears to have loved being anonymous, seems to have a second thought and reveal herself to show herself to the world, please welcome Mrs. Lexy Charles.
"No, you might want to change the surname; it is now Mathias now.". Lexy said back to the presenter.
"Mathias... Mathi? Oh, you mean your husband is Ash... Asher Mathias," the presenter said back.
"Yes, darling," she replied.
I turned off the TV right away. Lexy Charles is one of our biggest shareholders in the company.
"God, what do I do?" I took my phone and called Mark; he answered after the third ring.
"Mark, where did you find her?". I said angrily.
"I don't know; a friend of mine said he knew a girl that can do it, and she did.". I didn't know it was Miss Charles. I swear, Ash, the company has been getting many questions asking the whereabouts of Alison, or we made all the story up like everything is going down; our sales are dropping. What do we do now, Mr. Mathias?" Mark said.
It seems inappropriate for Mark to call me that since we're both family, but I just hung up the call after telling him I will be right there.
I quickly dressed up and was at the door when Lexy came in with a bright smile on her face.
"You headed somewhere, hon, 'cause we need to talk, don't you think?" I nodded and sat down.
"I don't know you, but why did you want to ruin my life? You've never showed up to any board meeting. No one has ever heard of you, but now you just appear all of a sudden and publicly announce yourself. You know it will both be our downfall if it comes out that we are in a contract marriage, and the way you came isn't befitting for someone of your standard.".
"Hahahaha, you're very funny, Ash, because we both knew each other for a very long time. Well, you won't remember me because of the surgery I got to look very pretty for you. I know you don't choose ladies by their standards but by their looks, and I wanted you to look my way one time, but you wouldn't. You always care about people's class, and since I am poor, you won't even look me in the eyes, but how come you changed all of a sudden? You started liking that commoner girl, making my looks and money seem useless. Ash, I won't let anybody get in the way of my marriage with you, and I mean it.". She stands and starts walking away, leaving me baffled about where I knew her from, but I can't quite remember her face because she got a surgery.
Alison POV
Looking for a part-time job isn't that hard, but my back started to ache after working three shifts this morning and still get two more before midnight. I carried my body like I wasn't even the owner and walked inside the mall for my next shift. My first customer was a woman with big nose that kept picking them and still using the same hand to hand me the goods that she could have given me directly, it was so irritating attending to her, I finally got home after my last shift and my body feels like a wretched car and i laid down when the heater stopped working, it really cold outside and I might freeze to death if I stayed any longer so I picked up my phone to call the landlord who lives downstairs after dailing his number for the third time I gave up and wore my slippers and made my way downstairs, reaching there I started knocking on the door until he came out i started explaining my problem but the moment he opened his mouth I regret ever coming down I don't know when I made my way back up and started crying looking at how my life was good this moment and then the next moment am lying in a cold room that wouldn't be good to call a house more like a toilet and I was scammed this wasn't what that bastard downstairs shows me when I first came to apply but by the time I paid half the deposit he started changing his word that someone has already rented the place and told me this is the only one available and if am not going to accept it he won't be returning my deposit and they were the last money I had on me, the tears escaped my eyes and I started thinking about who I could have wrong for my life to start falling like this all in just a few months
My alarm woke me up the next morning. My body is all stiff from the cold. I take a quick shower and rush out. I was a few steps from the landlord's door, but I think I should remind him to repair the heater, but I don't want to knock on his door for him to speak and ruin my day again, so I shouted from the steps very loudly that even got me more than a few stares from passersby, so we wouldn't say I didn't remind him about it this morning because that man is so full of lies before running out.
As I was about to cross the road, an old woman was hit by a car right in front of me. I rushed to her and started calling people to call 911. When 911 came, I went with them to stay with the woman in the hospital and wait for her family. The bastard driver ran after the incident. After sitting with her for hours, none of her family came. When I remembered I was on my way to work, I checked my phone, and my boss had already called me three times without a number, and the latest messages on my phone read, You're fired. It was almost time for my fourth shift, so I thought I should go since none of her family members were showing up when she grabbed my hand.
"Young lady, please don't go," the woman said in a sad tone, and it made me remember my late mom, so I sat down with her.
