"Are those your files? You can hand them to Lucas on your way out. You can start here next week. We're done here, dear. You're free to go.".
I stood up, bowing a little before I walked out. Lucas was standing outside; he took the file from me, and I went out of the company. Although it came as a shock to me how I just got the job like that and am starting next week, I am still happy since I wouldn't be working part-time jobs anymore and I might even change my house once I got paid. At least my life is getting back together. I got home and turned on the TV, and through scrolling, one of the trending news stories came up about an anonymous billionaire female who just came out to be the new Lexy Mathias, the same Mathias that I was marrying into. I scoffed. I knew he wouldn't choose a companion like me to be his wife, and girls like that are there. I turned off the TV because I don't want my day ruined by any news.
I started working at Grace Company on the exact date I was given as her personal assistant, and we got to talk, and I got to know more about her in the long run. I moved out of my old apartment not long after my first pay and am getting my life back piece by piece. What remains is my future husband.
Asher pov.
I have started getting adjusted to lexy in the house and am starting to think less of Alison now that it seems my future is now lexy. Tristan, my best friend, is coming back this week, and I am planning on a grand surprise for him: a position in my company wouldn't be a bad idea.
I picked up Tristan at the airport on Thursday and made our way to my house. He's going to be staying over till he finds his home, and I want to catch up on the times we were apart that I didn't even notice Lexy walking in.
"How long is your friend going to stay here? she asked".
I looked at her and spoke. "Till I and him decide it's time to go, and he might live here forever if I can get him to agree, I said and walked out of the room.
Breakfast was served the next morning, prepared by Lexy herself; I don't even know she is doing it when the maids can. We all ate in silence before Lexy spoke up.
"Tristan, will you also say you don't remember me? Your buddy here says he doesn't.".
"I do; who wouldn't remember? You guess the surgery didn't cover it all because I can see straight through you.".
Tristan said before standing up and heading back to his room. I went inside Tristan's room after breakfast, and he was looking out the window with a wine in his hand.
"What is that woman doing here? You told me you were marrying Alison like what happened. I explained everything to him and asked where he knew Lexy from; he said he doesn't, but her voice resembles someone we know, but he isn't quite sure who.

Mr. George Mathias ran to the company workshop where the fire has been said to start; it has all burned down to the ground, and a person has been said to have died in the fire: a man who works for the company named Michael Jonas. The company compensated his family by giving them a little share in the company; the man's wife traveled away a week later with their only child, and they have never heard of him again since then.
Ten years later, George passed down the company to his son while he resided in his home with his sister.
Alison POV.
Now that I am getting my life back, all that is lacking is a prince charming to round it all up. I followed Mrs. Williams the last time she traveled, and when I learned that she's fighting lung cancer and has less than a year to live, she told the doctor not to tell her the exact date or month.
"You look worried," Alison, Mrs. Williams, asked me as we made our way down the hall.
"It's nothing, ma'am; I'm just lost in thought."
"Alison, don't tell me you're worried about what the doctor says; it really is nothing, just like I have been wanting sooner or later to be with my daughter. Would it really be nothing, okay, darling?"
"Yes, ma'am."
I got home from work not long ago. I sat down and began to think. Just a night before our bachelor's night, Ash came to visit me. We stayed together for a while, and he told me how eager he is to marry the person he loves and how much he loves me, and he's looking forward to our wedding day. Then he sent the letter just hours before our wedding. I stopped crying about Asher a long time ago because I wanted to forget my past and move on.
Ash POV.
With Tristan in the house, it doesn't seem so empty because he wouldn't mind cracking jokes all day long, but someone isn't that happy about this whole thing. Lexy has continuously asked me to send Tristan out, but I have been turning deaf ears because I didn't want to live in a house with her alone. She hasn't done anything to me, but something tells me she isn't good news.
"Ash, remember when we were in twelfth grade? Do you remember Tracy Scars, the girl that had a crush on you back then? I think that's her, Lexy."
"Really? It seems the plastic surgery covered her all up; she even changed her name, but I think there's nothing wrong with her face.
"You know girls, she might feel insecure about her face."
"You know she says she got the surgery because of me because I wasn't looking her way or something, but man, I didn't even notice her. Yes, I remember someone by that name but not the face."
"It's all in her bio; she changed her name after getting the surgery."
