CHAPTER 9: JEALOUSY

564 Words
The photo was sent to Khang in the afternoon. It appeared on his screen without warning. Linh. Sitting across from another man. Talking calmly. Looking completely at ease. His hand tightened around the phone. “Who is he?” Khang asked. His voice was low. The assistant stood in front of him. “Minh. A major investor.” “One of the most influential figures in the city.” Khang’s eyes darkened. Of course it was someone like that. Someone powerful. Someone worthy. A faint, unfamiliar feeling rose in his chest. Sharp. Uncomfortable. He stood up without another word. “Prepare the car.” At the hotel, Linh had just finished her meeting. Minh stood beside her. His gaze lingered on her for a moment longer than necessary. “You are more interesting than I expected,” he said. Linh did not respond. She simply picked up her bag. “I will contact you.” Minh smiled. “I will be waiting.” The elevator doors opened. Khang stepped out. His presence immediately changed the atmosphere. Cold. Heavy. Impossible to ignore. His eyes went straight to Linh. Then to Minh. For a brief moment, silence filled the space. Minh was the first to react. He smiled slightly. “President Nguyen.” His tone was polite. But distant. Khang did not return the greeting. His attention remained on Linh. “You came here to see him?” It was not a question. Linh met his gaze. “Yes.” No hesitation. No explanation. Khang’s jaw tightened. “You move fast.” His words carried meaning. Linh tilted her head slightly. “Faster than you expected?” Minh watched the exchange quietly. Interest flickered in his eyes. Khang stepped closer. The distance between them disappeared. “Stay away from him.” His voice was low. Controlled. But there was something else beneath it. Something close to anger. Linh looked at him calmly. “You no longer have the right to say that.” Her words were soft. But they landed heavily. For a moment, no one spoke. The tension in the air grew thicker. Minh finally moved. He stepped forward slightly. Standing beside Linh. “President Nguyen,” he said calmly, “I believe this is no longer your concern.” Khang’s gaze shifted to him. Cold. Sharp. “Be careful who you work with.” Minh did not flinch. “I always am.” Linh took a step back. Creating space. Ending the silent confrontation. “I think this conversation is over,” she said. Her tone was calm. As if none of this affected her. She turned to leave. But Khang caught her wrist. The movement was quick. Instinctive. “Linh.” Her name left his lips before he could stop himself. She paused. Then slowly looked down at his hand. Her expression did not change. “Let go.” Two simple words. No emotion. Khang hesitated. For the first time, he felt unsure. Then he released her. Slowly. Linh did not look back. She walked away. Step by step. Without hesitation. Without regret. Minh watched her leave. Then glanced at Khang. A faint smile appeared. “Looks like you lost something important.” Khang said nothing. His gaze remained fixed on the direction she had gone. Something inside him shifted again. Stronger this time. Clearer. It was not just anger. It was jealousy.
