CHAPTER 3: THE FIRST SLAP

Morning came with clear skies. Inside the Tran mansion, everything was already in motion. Servants moved quickly. Phones kept ringing. News had spread. The young lady of the Tran family had returned. Linh stood in front of the mirror. She wore a simple white dress. No heavy makeup. No jewelry. Yet her presence was impossible to ignore. “Miss, the press is waiting outside,” Uncle Tran said. Linh adjusted her sleeve calmly. “Let them wait.” Her voice was light but firm. At the same time, inside Nguyen Group headquarters, Khang walked into the meeting room. Executives stood up immediately. “President Nguyen.” He nodded. “Start.” Before the meeting began, the screen suddenly changed. Breaking news appeared. Everyone froze. “The mysterious heiress of the Tran family has returned.” A live broadcast filled the screen. Luxury cars lined up. A grand mansion stood behind them. Then a figure stepped out. Khang’s eyes locked on the screen. It was Linh. The room fell silent. No one dared to speak. Everyone knew what the Tran family represented. On the screen, reporters rushed forward. “Miss Linh, why have you been away for so long?” “Is it true you were married in secret?” “Are you divorced now?” Questions came one after another. Linh stood still. Calm and composed. Then she spoke. “Yes.” The crowd grew louder. “Yes, I was married.” She paused briefly. “And now, I am divorced.” Her voice was steady. Clear and fearless. Back in the meeting room, Khang’s hand slowly tightened. His expression darkened. Outside the mansion, a reporter shouted, “Miss Linh, do you regret your marriage?” Silence followed. Everything seemed to pause. Then Linh smiled faintly. “No.” She looked straight ahead. “As for regret, it is not mine.” The meaning was obvious. The crowd erupted. Inside the meeting room, a pen dropped to the floor. No one moved. The pressure was overwhelming. Khang suddenly stood up. “Meeting adjourned.” His voice was cold. No one questioned him. Back at the mansion, Linh turned and walked inside. She ignored the reporters. She ignored the noise. “Miss,” Uncle Tran said, “shall we proceed?” Linh stopped. Her eyes turned cold. “Yes.” “It is time.” At that moment, inside Nguyen Group, Khang’s phone rang. He answered. “Speak.” “President Nguyen, we have a problem.” “What problem?” “The Tran family…” The voice hesitated. “They just acquired thirty percent of our company shares.” Silence filled the room. Khang’s grip tightened. “What did you say?” His voice was dangerously low. At the mansion, Linh stood by the window. City lights reflected in her eyes. “This is only the beginning.”
