CHAPTER 5: THE WOMAN HE CHOSE

592 Words
Khang did not leave immediately. He stood there, looking at Linh. As if trying to understand her. But the woman in front of him felt completely unfamiliar. Cold. Distant. Untouchable. “Are you done?” Linh asked calmly. Her tone carried no emotion. Khang frowned. “This isn’t over.” “It is,” Linh replied. She turned away. As if the conversation meant nothing. “As long as I want it to be.” Khang’s expression darkened. Before he could speak, a soft voice came from the entrance. “Khang?” Both of them turned. A woman stood there. Elegant. Beautiful. Dressed in luxury. It was Lan. Her eyes moved between them. Then stopped on Linh. A brief flash of surprise appeared, then disappeared. “So this is where you are,” Lan said gently. She walked to Khang and held his arm. “I’ve been looking for you.” Linh watched quietly. Her expression did not change. But her eyes turned colder. Lan looked at Linh again. “You must be Linh.” Her tone was polite. But there was something sharp beneath it. Linh met her gaze. “Yes.” Lan smiled. “I’ve heard a lot about you.” Linh said nothing. Khang glanced at Linh, then at Lan. For a moment, something felt off. But he ignored it. “This isn’t your place,” he said. “You’ve done enough.” Linh slowly turned back to him. “My place?” She repeated softly. Then she smiled. “You are standing in my house.” Silence filled the hall. Lan’s hand tightened slightly around Khang’s arm. But her smile remained. “Khang, let’s go,” she said softly. “This is not worth your time.” Linh looked at her. A trace of mockery appeared in her eyes. “Miss Lan,” she said calmly, “you came here without an invitation.” She paused. “Do you always go wherever he goes?” Lan’s expression froze for a moment. Very brief. But noticeable. Khang frowned. “Linh, watch your words.” Linh looked at him. Completely unbothered. “Why?” “Did I say something wrong?” Lan took a small breath. Then smiled again. “I think you misunderstood something.” She stepped forward. Facing Linh directly. “Khang and I…” She paused. Then said softly, “We are together now.” The room fell silent. Khang did not deny it. Linh looked at them. Then nodded once. “I know.” Her voice was calm. Too calm. That calmness made something inside Khang tighten. Linh turned away. As if she had lost interest. “Then take him with you,” she said. “He doesn’t belong here.” Lan’s smile stiffened slightly. Khang’s expression turned cold. “Fine.” He took Lan’s hand. “Let’s go.” They walked toward the door. Before leaving, Khang stopped. He turned back. “You will regret this.” His voice was low. Linh did not turn around. “No,” she said calmly. “You will.” Khang’s gaze darkened. Then he left. The door closed. Silence returned. Uncle Tran stepped forward. “Miss, should we continue?” Linh stood by the window. Looking at the car leaving. Her eyes were calm. “Yes,” she said. “Increase the pressure.” Inside the car, Lan leaned closer. “Khang, don’t worry.” “She is just trying to provoke you.” Khang said nothing. But Linh’s words echoed in his mind. You will regret it.
