Lily and Adam 1: First Dance

307 Words
Lily stood on her porch in her dancing dress beaming as her mother took pictures.  "I can't believe you're already going to your first dance in high school!"  "Yeah, it's pretty weird, for me too." Lily patted her sides.  The dress felt lovely, though Lily felt as if it didn't match her nervous interior. She couldn't imagine actually dancing in front of so many people. The idea stuck in her throat as she tried to imagine what it felt like. Her mother finished snapping pictures as Adam rode into the driveway.  "OOOO! Look! At!You! You're too cute!" Lily's mother fawned over Adam as he strode up to the porch. Visibly uncomfortable, Adam pats his chest and looks down. "Thanks Mrs. Jones." Adam smiled as if to say, "That was weird."  On the short drive to the dance, Lily's mother kept exclaiming how adorable she thought the pair were. Lily and Adam chuckled in the backseat. At the dance, Lily and Adam stuck together the whole time, eventually joined by Ally and a few others. The beautiful people dancing and the loud fun music took Lily completely off guard. She was too afraid to dance. Ally generously shared her dance moves with Lily. Adam picked Lily up and danced her around like a large stiff doll.  Lily tried to explain that she couldn't dance to her friends. She knew how to move. She did all the time at home. But in front of others, Lily was too scared. She was scared stiff. Her mind held her hostage. Ally and Adam assumed Lily just didn't know how to move.  After a few hours, Lily sighed in relief that the dance was over. Adam walked out to wait for his ride with Lily. Lily gave him a quick kiss on the cheek as left to get into his car. She fell back against the stone wall. Ally grinned. Lily grinned back.
