Chapter Four: Luke’s FriendsDominic continues sending her gifts afterwards, little tokens to show her that he's thinking about her and gifts that would be entirely appropriate if she isn't another man's wife. The most surprising thing about all of it is how Luke had taken the news.
"Mr. Dominic wants to court me," she says two days later, not bothering to beat around the bush. She had done that for long enough and would rather just get it done and over with.
Luke had not even looked up from the phone in his grip. He appears to be reading the news or something. "I know," he grunts.
"You know?" she echoes numbly, unsure of how to proceed. She had expected him to be upset, maybe fight for her a little. "Are you giving your consent, then?" she asks.
He shrugs like it doesn't matter to her
