Choose mate

Chapter One The forest was alive with tension. Every branch seemed to tremble under the weight of expectation, every breath of wind carried the scent of fear, lust, and hunger. Wolves from every pack had gathered at the base of the Blackridge Mountains, away from human’s reach ,where the earth opened like an ancient scar and the full moon rose in its blood-red glory. Tonight was no ordinary full moon. Tonight, mates would be revealed. The air buzzed with unease as wolves in both human and beast form shifted restlessly. Some were eager, desperate for the mate bond that would be revealed. Others feared it, knowing that once claimed by the moon, there was almost an impossible turning back. At the center of the gathering,Ervin stood, tall and unyielding, his dark shirt draped across his broad shoulders. His eyes burned with the color of obsidian, sharp and merciless. He was the Alpha of the Blackfang Pack, and even without shifting, his presence was a command. Wolves lowered their heads when he passed, though he hardly spared them a glance. Ervin wasn’t interested in a mate but despite being the Alpha,he’s under the moon’s control .To him, bond was a chain, and he bowed to nothing. But the laws of the moon demanded every wolf stand beneath its light during the Blood Moon, and so here he was—watching, waiting, and cursing silently that fate would dare test him. “Alpha,” Why those it smell like you will get a mate today ?” Rafayel’s voice broke through, sighting someone that turned Ervin on just my walking by,a week ago. Ervin’s jaw tightened. “I better not, because I’m in a good mood to reject anyone!.” “Are you?” Rafayel smirked making Ervin glare at him, the beta quickly grew silent. The crowd hushed as the Blood Moon reached its zenith, bleeding across the night sky. A heat surged through the gathering, primal and undeniable. Chests heaved, claws flexed, and then— The pull began. Ervin’s heart thundered once, hard enough to make him grit his teeth,NO! Really?!…he cried out in his mind, not believing the moon really decided it this year. His skin seared as if marked by fire. And then his gaze was dragged unwillingly snatched—toward the shadows at the edge of the clearing. A figure stood apart from the crowd, quiet, unmoving. Kaelen. He was the same boy that recently joined his pack. His silver hair caught the light of the moon like threads of frost. Calm gray eyes met Ervin’s burning black ones with unnerving steadiness. He didn’t bow, didn’t flinch, didn’t even look surprised. The pull tightened, vicious and absolute. Mate. The word slammed into Ervin’s mind, raw and undeniable. His wolf roared inside him, a beast clawing at the surface, demanding to claim, to mark, to own. But Kaelen only stood there, serene, as though he had expected this all along. Ervin’s lips curled back in a snarl. “No.” The wolves around them gasped, some stumbling back as the realization rippled through the crowd. The Alpha of the Blackfangs had been matched—fated—bonded. And not to a fierce warrior or dominant rival… but to the quiet exile no pack had wanted. He looked as though he was the weakest wolf to ever live. Kaelen finally moved, slow and deliberate. He stepped out of the shadows and into the bloodlight, his calm eyes focused on Ervin’s furious ones. Everyone went dead silent,no one could dare say anything. Kaelen finally standing right in front of Ervin nervously raised his head to meet his gaze… Ervin made no move but his eyes never left Kaelen’s It was more like daring Kaelen to voice the obvious But Kaelen didn’t… Instead, his hand raised slowly to Cease Ervin’s face Drawing a groan from Ervin who quickly caught Kaelen’s hand, and yanked it away from his face. Kaelen smiled sadly at him taking a step closer Tiptoed at kissed Ervin on the cheeks before walking away Eyes grew wide at how audacious the boy was With gaps filling the air Ervin’s heart thundered. Some wolves clung to each other, trembling in awe as mate marks glowed freshly on their skin. Others slipped away into the forest, already giving into the heat that came with fate’s cruel gift. By dawn, they would return with swollen lips, marked necks, and a glow in their eyes that no wolf could hide. The rest walked home empty-handed, silent, their gazes heavy with envy or relief. But Ervin stood still, his jaw clenched so hard it could shatter bone. His mate—his bond—was gone from sight. He refused to look toward the shadows where Kaelen had vanished, as if pretending it had never happened would undo it. “Ervin.” A hand caught his shoulder. His Beta, and closest friend since childhood, Rafayel. You should go after him” Rafayel’s voice was low, but urgent. Ervin shoved him away with such force that Rafayel stumbled back. His black eyes burned like fire under the fading red sky. “Don’t speak about him to me.” “Ervin—” “I said don’t!” Chapter 1 The entire clearing flinched at the thunder of his voice. Even mated wolves ducked their heads, afraid to look at him. His fury was the kind that made the air crackle, but beneath it, an invisible pain licked at his skin, clawed inside his chest, seared into his blood. The bond was gnawing at him. Demanding. Burning. He turned on his heel and stormed out of the forest, refusing the whispers that followed him
