Ayla “You kept mentioning Master. Is he the lord owner of the house?” I asked sheepishly. They both looked at each other and answered, “Yes. Our master is the owner of this home. He doesn’t visit often and is always..indisposed.” Mrs. Wayne said. “You probably won’t even see him while you are here. He’s...somewhere else.” Mr. Wayne added. Two women and two men entered the room. “Ah, just in time.” Mr. Wayne said. “Let me introduce you to the other staff of the house that would be working with. This is Cecilia and Annabel. They help cleaning the rooms and polishing everything. They’ll help you look for anything you need.” “And this is James and Mathias. James takes care of the ground, and Matias is our in house chef.” Mrs. Wayne added. ‘For now they are the people you need to know, and they will report to you if they need anything or if any issues comes up.” All four nodded and smiled. “Welcome to the Blackwood Castle, Miss.” it was Cecilia who greeted me. “Oh, pleae, call me Ayla.” I said. She smiled brighter and I think I just gained a new friend. After the intoductions, Mr. Wayne gave me a tour inside the castle. "You kept mentioning 'Master.' Is he the lord and owner of this house?" I asked sheepishly. They both looked at each other and answered, "Yes. Our master is the owner of this home. He doesn't visit often and is always...indisposed," Mrs. Wayne said. "You probably won't even see him while you are here. He's...somewhere else," Mr. Wayne added, a hint of sadness in his voice. Just then, two women and two men entered the room. "Ah, just in time," Mr. Wayne said. "Let me introduce you to the other staff of the house that you will be working with. This is Cecilia and Annabel. They help with cleaning the rooms and polishing everything. They'll help you look for anything you need." "And this is James and Mathias. James takes care of the grounds, and Mathias is our in-house chef," Mrs. Wayne added. "For now, they are the people you need to know, and they will report to you if they need anything or if any issues come up." All four nodded and smiled. "Welcome to Blackwood Castle, Miss," Cecilia greeted me warmly. "Oh, please, call me Ayla," I said, returning her smile. She smiled brighter, and I think I just gained a new friend. “Ayla will be overseeing everything while Mrs Wayne and I are travelling. Please make sure you report to Ayla with everything if there are any issues, and she will handle it.” They all nodded and bowed their heads that to me seemed odd. After the introductions, Mr. Wayne gave me a tour inside the castle. The interior was even more impressive than the exterior, with its high ceilings, intricate woodwork, and opulent furnishings. We walked through the grand ballroom, the formal dining room, the library with its towering bookshelves, and the conservatory filled with exotic plants. As we explored, Mr. Wayne regaled me with the history of the castle, weaving tales of generations of his master and the ones before him who had lived and loved within these walls. His voice, rich with the weight of the past, resonated in the cavernous rooms as he pointed out the ancestral portraits, each face a brushstroke in the grand tapestry of Blackwood's legacy. He spoke of the intricate carvings adorning the fireplace mantels, detailing the symbolism behind each mythical creature and heraldic crest. We paused beneath a breathtaking tapestry depicting a fierce battle scene, its vibrant colors seemingly leaping from the woven fabric. Mr. Wayne explained how it had been commissioned centuries ago to commemorate a victorious ancestor, a testament to his masters family's unwavering courage. He even revealed a hidden passage concealed behind a revolving bookcase, a secret known only to a select few. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he led me through the narrow passage, emerging into a hidden chamber filled with priceless artifacts and heirlooms. By the end of the tour, I was overwhelmed but exhilarated. This was not merely a house-sitting job; it was an immersion into a world of luxury and enigma. I couldn't wait to uncover the secrets Blackwood Castle held within its ancient walls. "Now, shall we take a stroll through the gardens?" Mr. Wayne inquired, a twinkle in his eye. We stepped out into the warm afternoon sunlight, following a meandering path through a labyrinth of meticulously manicured hedges and vibrant flower beds. The air was alive with the intoxicating perfume of roses, and the gentle trickle of a nearby fountain created a soothing ambiance. As we rounded a bend, a quaint cottage nestled amidst a grove of ancient oaks came into view. Smoke curled lazily from its chimney, hinting at a cozy hearth within. Mrs. Wayne emerged from the cottage, her smile as warm as the sunlight dappling the path. "Perfect timing, as always, dear," she said, her gaze shifting to me with a welcoming gleam. "Ayla, this will be your accommodations," Mr. Wayne announced, his voice laced with a paternal warmth. "I hope you don't mind. This cabin is all yours for the summer." A wave of surprise and delight washed over me. The cottage was charming, its weathered stone exterior adorned with climbing ivy and delicate blooms. A small porch beckoned with the promise of tranquil afternoons spent reading and sipping tea. "It's absolutely perfect," I exclaimed, my voice filled with genuine enthusiasm. "Thank you so much." "We wanted to ensure your comfort during your stay," Mrs. Wayne added, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "After all, you'll be our guardian angel, watching over Blackwood while we're away." Her words sent a shiver down my spine. A guardian angel. It was a weighty responsibility, but one I was eager to embrace. As I stepped inside the cottage, I knew that this was not just a temporary dwelling; it was my sanctuary, my home for the summer. And within these walls, I would uncover the secrets of Blackwood Castle and discover my own destiny. As the day progressed, I met the rest of the staff, a small but dedicated team who worked tirelessly to maintain the grandeur of Blackwood Castle. They were warm and welcoming, eager to help me settle in and learn the ropes. That evening, after a delicious dinner prepared by Mathias, I retired to my cottage with a spacious bed chamber with a four-poster bed, a private balcony overlooking the castle gardens, and a bathroom larger than my entire dorm room. As I lay in bed, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for this unexpected turn of events. The first few days passed in a flurry of activity as I learned the routines and responsibilities of the house. I met with the staff each morning to discuss the day's tasks, oversaw the cleaning and maintenance of the house, and explored the vast grounds surrounding the castle. I quickly discovered that Blackwood Castle was more than just a house; it was a living, breathing entity with its own rhythm and secrets. There were hidden rooms and passageways, rumors of ghosts and long-lost treasures. The more I learned, the more intrigued I became. But I am and will always be in awe of the library.
