I jerked awake panting as I took in my surroundings.
Sera: Damn, did we have to wake up from that dream?
Aqua: Yeah, that was…intense.
Andrea: I’m still sweating guys.
I patted my forehead dry and looked to see that Angie was still sleeping. I grabbed the glass of water that was by the bedside and drank it all in one gulp in an effort to cool down.
I peeled away from the bed as quietly as I possibly could and tiptoed to the bathroom. Looking at myself in the mirror, I cursed as I realized that I had slept with the full face of makeup from yesterday. While it stayed pretty intact, surprisingly, it would be a skin nightmare.
I cleaned the makeup off and washed my face when my finger glinted in the mirror, reminding me that I was officially engaged.
I hadn’t even gotten to spend the entire evening with my newly engaged fiancé before I was called to another crisis.
I loved Angie, so I would always show up for her, but a small selfish part of me wanted to spend a little more time with my delectable mate before the world found us.
I admired the ring more closely and my heart swelled with the care he put into this ring and made it all the more special.
It incorporated every part of me and my counterparts. It was truly breathtaking and a stray tear made its way down my cheek. I wiped it away and held the ring close to my chest where my heart ached with the need to be with my mate.
Sera: I have to admit, that is one f*****g beautiful ring.
Aqua: Would it kill you to have some tact? Tsk.
Sera: I can show you tact. Xavier never has an issue with my tact.
Andrea: TMI people.
Sera: Hmph. We never say anything when you and Noah are doing s**t.
I cut that thought before we got any deeper. I loved every part of Noah and Xavier, but I was not getting into whatever went on when our animals took over.
Glancing at the ring one more time, I showered and got ready for the day. Borrowing- and I use the term loosely - some clothes from Angie and using the spare toiletries I keep at her place.
Once I felt more human and alive, I walked out to see Angie still snoring. I wasn’t surprised considering the emotional turmoil she went through yesterday. I am glad, however, that she decided to give Jack another chance.
I grabbed my phone quietly and checked to see if there were any texts or calls from Noah. There were none and I felt weird because of it. Huh.
I decided to send him a text anyway. Maybe he’s still asleep even though he almost always gets up for his training and work out session.
I got two cups of coffee ready and inhaled the sweet nectar provided by the Goddess.
“Can I get some of that?” I heard Angie say weakly as she padded into the kitchen holding her head.
I handed her the other cup without a word, knowing she wasn’t ready for civilization until at least one coffee cup.
I go over to the cabinet and pull out some ibuprofen and hand it to her. She nods her gratitude.
“How the hell are you not as miserable as me?” she rasps out, slightly annoyed.
“Comes with the new upgrades,” I shrug.
She grumbled but said nothing coherent, as far as I heard.
I decided to text Noah something I knew would get him here as soon as he saw it.
Smirking, I put my phone away and observed my best friend.
“How’re you doing this morning?” I cautiously asked.
She shrugged her shoulders, giving a noncommittal answer.
I dropped the subject and went to clear up the kitchen.
“What’re you planning on doing for the rest of the day?” I asked.
“Nothing, I’m off luckily,” she replied.
I helped her clean up her loft while we decided on lunch.
“How about Chinese for your hangover?” I suggested.
She moaned in agreement. I checked my phone for the time again while I placed the order and wondered what was going on with Noah. I closed my eyes but sensed no negative feelings, so I knew he was okay.
Shortly after the food arrived and we sat down, I smelled him. A smile instantly made its way to my face and I nearly ran to the door, slightly glad he made it in time for his show.
We had a greeting that left me blushing and him smirking, but that was how most of our encounters ended these days.
Angie invited him inside to join us for lunch, and we fell into a comfortable place. After we ate, I could tell Noah wanted to leave immediately, as he couldn’t stop the subtle touches. Each touch burned my skin, and I was nearly panting internally.
Sera: And she calls us animals.
Aqua snickered, and I rolled my eyes but didn’t deny how Noah brought this part out in me. I didn’t even know it existed, and I mean that literally and figuratively.
Noah: Keep staring at me like that little mate and I swear on the Goddess that I will take you the next moment I can.
I gasped softly, making sure Angie didn't hear me.
Andrea: You will be the death of me some day.
Noah: Don’t ever say that. I will kill anyone who will be your death, even myself.
Andrea: Now who’s talking about stuff they shouldn’t be?
Noah snorted and Angie looked up from her food for the first time.
She looked between the two of us and rolled her eyes before going back to her food.
I felt slightly bad about being like this in front of her and was about to apologize before she gave me a look that said she would stab me with her fork if I even tried to.
I shoved the rest of my food down and picked up my utensils and began to clear my place. Noah stood up and did the same, signaling that we were about to leave.
He placed a kiss on my forehead and whispered, “I already grabbed your stuff. I'll be waiting in the car with my beautiful mate. Don’t keep me waiting too long.”
I swear this man reads my mind most days. He said something to Angie which I didn’t fully catch before he left the loft.
Glad for one last private moment before I left, I walked over to her and gave her a strong hug.
“Everything will. I am and always will be on your side, so just give me a ring, and you know I’m here,’’ I told her honestly.
“Speaking of rings, don’t think I haven’t seen yours,” she gushed.
“I didn’t want to put that above your issues,” I grimaced.
She lightly smacked the back of my head.
“It is clearly written in our best friend's code of conduct that that answer is complete bullshit. I am really happy for you, truly. You deserve it,” she said earnestly.
“You do too,” I reiterated.
“Alright now, go. I think Noah will come back and drag you if you spend any more time here,’’ she joked.
I laughed lightly, knowing full well he would actually do that.
We both said goodbye and I walked out of the loft and down the stairs.
Noah was waiting for me at the bottom, looking as yummy as ever.
Sera: I want to lick him all around.
Aqua: I would join in on that.
Andrea: I agree.
Noah chuckled as if he could read my mind and honestly he probably could.
"Little mate," he growled lightly, "if you don't get in this car now, I will not hold back right here, right now."
I ran to the car and told him, "Better hurry if you want me remember every detail of my dream."
That was all the encouragement he needed before he drove off.
