Ch 5: Noah

As much as it pains me to leave her, I do because I know that is what she needs right now. Xavier: We really need to get our Beta and Gamma to stop interfering in our love lives. Noah: You can say that again. Xavier: Every time we are getting closer to her, one of them messes up and always gets in the way. Noah: Let's go have a chat with our Beta. Xavier: Finally. Noah: Be nice Xav. I drive off while dialing Jack's number and put it on speakerphone. I could mind link him, but sometimes I like to take advantage of all the modern technology has given us. It rings and rings but he never picks up. I try again, only for him to not pick up again. I stab the phone to hang up harder than I meant to. He is seriously pissing me off right now. I try one last time and lo and behold, as if sensing my anger, he picks up. "Yes?" he asks weakly. Damn, I kinda feel bad for him. I remember when Andrea wouldn't speak to me, that s**t was hell. "Hey, you okay? I kind of heard what happened. I know you wouldn't dare do anything to sabotage your mate bond, so you wanna tell me what's going on?" I ask, trying to be as supportive as possible. He let out a deep sigh that he was holding. "It really was nothing but a case of wrong timing. I was minding my business at the Eclipse Moon Diner, waiting for Angelica, wanting to tell her everything about us. I mean she already knows some stuff from our Luna, but I wanted to tell her about myself and what she is to me. So anyway, I was waiting, when some random chick ran up to me, slapped me, climbed into my lap and then started kissing me. It all happened so fast and out of nowhere that I was in shock. It wasn't until I smelled Angelica that I snapped out of it but by then it was too late. It really wasn't me. I swear. I would never hurt her like that, not after what I've been through. You know that better than anyone," he pleads his case, although he didn't have to. "I believe you. I just told Andrea before I dropped her off that there had to be a misunderstanding," I explained. "Thanks man." "Of course," I reply. I knew after what happened with his first mate that Jack would NEVER hurt anyone else like that again, mate or not. "Do you know who the chick was?" I ask. "I don't know for sure, but I also don't remember everyone I hooked up with," he replied sheepishly. "Seriously, you're so lucky shifters don't get STDs. Otherwise, you'd be the encyclopedia," I joke. "Thank Goddess for shifter genes," he jokes back. A comfortable silence falls between us and I reach home. "Meet me in the office in 10 minutes," I say and hang up before he replies. I run up to my room, shower in 5 min and meet him in the office within the 10 minutes. He's already waiting for me, taking out the good stuff from my cabinet and pouring two fingers into each. My lips pull to one side and no words need to cross between us. We sit there and enjoy the burn of the liquor as it makes its way down our throats and settles warmly in our stomach. Our minds wander off to our mates. I just hope their evening goes better. I know once Andrea has spoken to Angie, she will contact me. For now, we wait.
