{Viktor’s POV}
I sighed, signing off on yet another stack of papers. I leaned back in my chair staring up at the ceiling, I haven’t slept well in weeks.. maybe more like months. It’s my own fault, I’m the one who’s been avoiding her, yet she’s all I think about.
The image of her so beautiful and kind, being crushed by the one of her being broken and terrified of me. I’ve done this to myself, once again I’m the one who is causing myself this pain and stress. I groaned rubbing my eyes, what time was it? What day was it? I guess I lost track somewhere within the past two months.
I gripped my nose, pinching the bridge of it, it was still a little tender, but it healed up fine. I looked to the paperwork sitting on my desk, and decided I should get back to it.
Suddenly the door of my office slung open, revealing Daniella. She was in a black party dress, with her short hair curled and styled. She wore a dark Smokey eyeshadow, and a bold red lipstick. “Where are you off to?” I asked, getting back to the papers.
“You.. get up and get ready, now!” She snapped, causing me to shoot a glare up at her.
“Why would I do that?” I asked, leaning back in my chair once again.
“Because, we are going to Clara’s birthday party. I’m tired of you avoiding her! She did absolutely nothing wrong, and she feels like she’s upset you in some way! She is beating herself up because you’re being a d**k!” She shouted at me.
I let out a long sigh. “I know..” I began, but she cut me off.
“And you know what else, she is worried about you, she kept asking if you were okay! She’s done nothing but.. wait..” she paused. “Did you say that you know?” She asked.
“I know, and you’re right..” I said, standing from my spot. “I’ve been avoiding her.. but not because I’m angry with her.. I just, I think it’s best if we don’t see one another again.” I said, turning towards my window, and looking outside.
“Why?” She asked, walking closer. “Give me your honest reason as to why you think that it would be better if you never see one another again!” She shouted. “If you can give me three good reasons, then I’ll leave without you.”
“One, she’s young and eager to help, even in dangerous situations that she has no business being in. Two, she’s bad at following directions, even ones that could save her life, and three, she isn’t meant for a world like the one we live in. Could you imagine her playing any part in any of what we do? None of us should be around her.. she’s going to get dragged into it because of me, or Dimitri, or even you! You don’t even seem to care that you’re pulling her into the world that we live in! The one where our friends get ki**** or kidnapped!” I said, turning back to her.
“Fine, I get it.. but she’s my friend Vik.. I can’t just ignore her or forget about her. She’s in this world no matter what, her brother is your cleaner, and Dimitri’s boyfriend! I know that ever since Margo you haven’t allowed yourself to get close to anyone, friend, romantic partner or otherwise, but she’s a good person. She’s kind, generous, caring, and I think that she’s good for all of us. I really like her, Dimitri loves her, he already sees her as a sister, and so do I. The least you can do is try to accept her into our family.. she kind of already is. Once Dimitri and Adrien get married, we’ll be related by marriage, so just get used to it. I get that you don’t want to go, so I’ll go without you, but she’s going to be upset because you didn’t come.” She said, sighing as she turned to leave.
I sat back down in my chair, and tried to get back to work. I flipped through pages, not really reading any of them. Da****, she got in my head.. well I suppose that Clara is the one who’s really gotten into my head. Every single time I close my eyes I see her in one way or another. Her smile, her tears, her laughter, her screams.. I can’t forget any of it, no matter how hard I try.
I stood up, rushing to my bathroom and splashing some water on my face. “Just stop thinking about it..idiot.” I said to myself. She did try to check up on me, multiple times.. she even texted me and I just ignored her. I looked at myself, I’ve got bags under my eyes, I haven’t been sleeping well. This is upsetting me more than I’d lie to admit. I looked myself over and sighed, leaning against the bathroom counter. I paused for a moment, just trying to breathe, before I turned, rushing down the hallway. I made it just in time to see Daniella heading to the front door. “Wait! Let me go get dressed and I’ll come with you.” I said.
She turned, looking over to me with a smile. “Okay, I’ll wait for you right here, take a quick shower, you’re a mess!” She said, walking into the living room and sitting down on the couch. “Just don’t take forever, we don’t want to be too late!” She shouted after me as I made my way upstairs, and into my room.
I pulled off my dirty clothes, discarding them in the laundry basket before stepping into the shower. I washed off completely, then stepped out, grabbing a towel and drying off. I brushed back my hair with some gel, and walked into my room, picking out some clothes. I grabbed a black button up shirt, and a red vest, with a pair of slacks, and dress shoes. I got dressed, and made my way down the stairs looking over to Daniella who was now standing in the archway. “That’s much better, you at the very least look presentable. Now, let’s go get some gifts, and we’ll head over.” She smiled, looping her arm in mine and practically dragging me out of the house.
