Celestial's Prayer

Interrogation

Lathaniel was pacing in front of Kay and the girl he had brought in 10 minutes ago. However, this girl was no ordinary girl. She sported strange markings that, to the eye, seemed to cover her entire body in outlined spots that especially accentuated her eyes.

“Damn it, Kay! What have you gotten into?” He was deeply upset, borderline pissed. If what Kay was insinuating, this girl in front of Lathaniel was one of those celestial beings and that... he was now tainted and impure? He shook his head, unsure.

Red in the face, Kay muttered something undecipherable when the girl responded dominantly, “My life in our clan was undesirable, to say the least. So, I left my clan and ran to Kay, whom I’ve seen many times before... I asked him to help me find a new life amongst humans. His family found out and made him an outcast.”

“Unworthy to be a part of the priesthood. Unworthy to be a part of the family.” Kay looked solemn now as he said those words. The physical pain of being labeled as an outcast was visible in his pale face.

“Hey bud, it’s OK, I’ll help ya out. Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.” Lathaniel tried to be as reassuring as he could to Kay. Lathaniel is fully aware of how it feels to be labeled as an outcast from something you’ve dreamed and known for your entire life.

A light smile crawled onto Kay’s face, “Thanks man, we greatly appreciate it.”

Lathaniel did a double take, “Wooo! Wait, we? You mean the girl is staying with you?”

As she registered his words, she grew angry, “Wait, girl! I am nearly 20 years old in human years. I am NO girl, thank you.”

Lathaniel rolled his eyes at her immature ways, “Whatever, you’re female. Girl, woman, or old hag, it makes no difference to me.”

The girl opened her mouth to protest, her eyes on fire, but Kay clasped her hand. “Maddy. Please, stop. And dude be kinder to her. She’s done nothing wrong.”

Exasperated, Lathaniel raised his hands in anger. “Nothing wrong? Kay please, she’s got you labeled as an outcast because her clan life was undesirable? On top of that, how in the world do you think she’s going to be able to go in public with all of those markings?”

“We’ll hide them with the stuff called make-up. I hear that’s supposed to cover up everything!”Lathaniel’s gaze grew icy towards her. Her ignorance was quite plain, and now he was going to have to help her and Kay out at his small pace. He stopped pacing and crossed his arms in front of him.

“Do you know how much that stuff costs?”

“No but- “

“But nothing. You’re going to need to use a lot of it, and it’s going to cost a fortune. Might as well stay inside all the time.” With that said, the couple slumped further into their seats, hopelessness written all over their faces. “Whatever, you can stay for a while. We’ll figure something out by then. Let me show you to your room.”
