Chapter 6: Heard It

1604 Words
REGALEON "I don't want any proof, Michael. I know she's the one. Skylar is my mate." Immediately after I say it, vanilla and rain hits me. I look over and it's her — Skylar. "But still, Sk..." I rush over and cover my beta's mouth before he says anything. _'This dude never takes hints.'_ That is Ace. I look over at Skylar and she gives me an awkward smile. "I'm sorry, I knocked but there was no response. I'll be back later." "No!" I say it too fast and too loud. I feel my beta jump a little under my palm. I let go, then clear my throat. "Prof Michael was just leaving." I straighten my shirt and eye Michael. I don't know if he finally gets it, but he excuses himself while Skylar takes the seat he was sitting on. "Hope I didn't scare you earlier." I say, trying to catch any expression that tells me she heard me call her my mate, but I don't get any. She just shakes her head with a light smile. "I really think you sound cool whichever way you speak." _'Is she flirting with me?'_ Ace asks and I actually struggle to hide my smirk, so I smile at Skylar instead. _'If she's flirting, then it's with me. She doesn't know you exist.'_ I hear a snort when I say that. This wolf really pisses me off. "So what brings you here?" I ask her, deciding to not flirt back before I lose focus. "Oh, about that. There's a problem with the assignment." She responds. "Really?" I feign surprise. I did it intentionally because I wanted to see her. "Yes, Sir." When she speaks, I imagine her calling my name with that calm and smooth voice of hers. That thought alone causes my body to react and I do not need to look down before I know what has changed. _'Dude, control yourself!'_ Ace yells and I can't even talk back, so I focus on what Skylar is saying and how to fix the mistake that I personally created. *** Returning home for the first time after I find my mate is very festive, just not the usual festivity. When I arrive, the maids are busy running around but I know nothing good will come out of today. My only getaway is to act angry when things take a left turn. Michael's not at home and I wonder why. I know he leaves early on Tuesdays. _'You are the one who's confused about your mate. He's not, so he's probably having fun by now.'_ Ace replies even though I didn't ask him. _'Thank you for your well thought of answer.'_ I find mother and I go to greet her. She responds but she's not smiling, so I know she's a Luna at work right now. "Come with me. We've been waiting for you since yesterday." Mother can exaggerate but I'm not calling her out. When we get to the meeting room, I'm shocked. There are 15 elders in total, five from Bloodline and 10 from Blackwings. When we call for meetings, usually all Bloodline Pack elders show up with at most half of Blackwings elders joining, but they are all here today. Even father, who claims to have washed his hands off any duties when I succeeded him, is also in attendance. _'What is this?'_ Ace asks. _'All for me to reject our mate.'_ I take my seat. _'I won't reject her!'_ He almost yells. _'Aye, Captain.'_ The meeting begins and they don't beat around the bush. They immediately say I can't be with a marked Luna when the mark is not mine. Conclusion, I have to reject her. _Have to_, an order, not a suggestion, but unfortunately, I'm the Alpha King. No one orders me. "I won't reject her." I state firmly and my parents look at me in shock. I get them, I don't know what is wrong with me either. "Alpha, do you want just any werewolf who has been tainted by someone to be our Luna?" An elder says and I slam my fist on the glass table so hard, it actually cracks. I look at the elder who was bold enough to say that. Ace is fuming and I can feel it, so it's definitely evident physically. "You dare repeat that statement and look for the rest of your body by the time you land?" I ask but I'm not even asking him. Ace is taking over and the elder knows better than to cross me when I'm like this. I said I was going to pretend to be mad but now I'm actually mad. I walk out of the meeting room and Ace suggests a run to cool off, so I agree. *** Ace comes to an abrupt end when we sense movement nearby in the forest. I was in my wolf form and Ace is huge and rough-looking. I don't really like people seeing us like this. When we held competitions in our wolf form, the girls drooled over how hot the black wolf's roughness is, but I think we can easily be mistaken as rogues when spotted in the forest this way. The only white part of my wolf was a white mark that cuts across my neck. "Alpha." My thoughts are interrupted by no one other than the mighty beta that I have. I growl at him when I see him and he only chuckles. I shift and he hands me clothes that I put on. "I heard you almost broke the glass table at the meeting room." Michael says, amusement evident in his voice but I'm not playing this game with him today. "Where were you?" I sound a little rude but I don't really care because I know he doesn't care either. "That's what I get after deciding to help you out?" The dramatics he's putting on can't ever be missed. I look at him, telling him I'm not following so he better continue. "I was doing some light research about your mate." "What happened? I thought you didn't want to help." I ask because I need to know what's in for my beta. He's usually more business-minded than I am, so he takes advantage of anything he does to help you out. "When I saw her today, I felt it too. She has this strong noble air, it can't be ignored." He responds and I definitely have to bite my tongue to stop myself from telling him I told him so. "So what did you find?" "It's weird." He says and keeps quiet. What in the world does Michael want me to say before he continues?! "Her family is called Gail, not Fox." My beta ends like he's implying something. "You are saying they are not her real family?" I ask him. "Yes, Alpha. And her mom and elder sister, they give off some smell, I can't quite figure it out." He says it like he's really having deep thoughts about it. "Also, her sister is older but they are always at the same level. She never showed interest in communications when they were younger but immediately Skylar said she wanted to be a journalist, she followed." "Seems like she's following her." I say and Michael agrees. "Just that, what is her reason?" He asks. "See? This is why I knew I needed you on board." I pat his back as I walk past him. He's done talking. I know because he asked a question about something he's supposed to be telling me. "You could have just said thank you!" He says after me and I can only groan in annoyance. SKYLAR There are a lot on my mind as I return to my dorm but one of the most prominent is to have a serious conversation with Reina as soon as possible. I find Reina alone when I walk into our room and she whistles when she sees me. "You took so long that I was considering locking up and going to sleep. I really thought you were going to spend the night." She teases and I feel the heat on my face as I remember my weird attempt at flirting with Prof Regaleon earlier. I'm very bad at these things so I am in much need of Reina's help "I need to talk to you about these two things." "I also need to tell you something. You go first." Reina responds. "I tried to flirt with him." She screams as soon as I land. I don't even say whom the 'him' refers to but I guess she's already aware. "What happened next? He flirted back?" She asks anxiously like her life depended on it. I shake my head as I play with my nails. "I don't think he sees me that way. And I mean, it's understandable if..." "Quit that. What's understandable? He's the one at loss for not flirting back." Reina jumps in before I begin to yap. "What did you say?" "I said he sounds cool whichever way he speaks." She bursts into laughter immediately and I glare at her. "Wait, wait, how did you say it?" She suddenly gets serious and asks. "I was fidgeting, okay?" I get defensive and Reina laughs again. "No wonder he didn't pick it up. Only someone who's really into you will consider that as flirting." She's still laughing at me. "It's okay, I have something else to say. Remember?" "Yeah, what is it?" She asks me, still trying to stop her giggles. "I heard him call me his mate." "What?!" To Be Continued
