Chapter 3: Caught In The Act

SKYLAR

"You are already marked?" He asks, his voice louder than usual while I stand there, staring at him like a lost kid.

The Professor lets go of me like he just realized touching me wasn't appropriate.

"I'm sorry," he apologizes quickly, but I'm not even offended.

I felt sparks. And I don't mind him touching me again.

"It's nothing, Sir. Please excuse me." I rush out of the office with the assignment like something is chasing me, because what if my intrusive thoughts win?

Getting to the cafeteria is all about me telling myself to stop whenever the thought of the Professor comes to mind.

I find Reina quickly and walk to her table.

"Skylar, first of all, you look like a tomato. Second, you are too late for just collecting an assignment. I almost finished my food. Did you people kiss?" Reina doesn't even let me sit down properly.

"Reina! He's a professor, for crying out loud sake!"

"And so? This is the university and most importantly, you like him. I mean, you actually like someone. I thought you don't feel that emotion but see, it happened. So I know this situation is shitty but you are going all in." The way she just says her stuff makes me eye her.

"Why are you so rotten?"

"You really wanna know?" she asks back and I nod.

"You know that hot lecturer, Prof Michael?"

"You two had s*x?" I ask and she just goes, "Not yet. Soon."

"Soon?" I ask her with a light smile and she smiles back, then nods.

This girl is the only reason all of my mom's advice ends up being in vain.

Finally, last class is over. I don't sit with Reina during this class because we used to make fun of the lecturer's heels instead of focusing, so we decided to sit apart.

I meet her so we can go to our dorm together. She, Nyla, and Nyla's friend Becky are my roommates.

The first thing Reina does is remind me I haven't posted the assignment on the class platform.

"We are still waiting, dear course rep." The sarcasm in her voice cannot be missed.

"I'll post it. Y'all should exercise patience," I reply.

"Should we just report you to Prof Regaleon?"

"That's his name? How do you know his name??" I ask and she raises her brows at me with a teasing look.

"What? Start talking already"

"Young lady, nobody wants your man, okay?"

"He's not my man," I murmur but I'm sure she hears it anyway.

"And girl, seems like you lost it way earlier than I thought you did during his lecture. He mentioned his name in the class," Reina says and I'm red instantly.

I got caught on HD.

"Let's hurry so I can put the assignment on the platform," I start walking ahead.

"You are the best topic evader I've ever met but I'm not going to stop. I'm going to be honest with you, you won't have him easily. How do I know? Simply because we both have names that start with R. It's going to be a tough mission but you won't regret the experience. It's just because we never disappoint. The Profe--"

I have officially stopped listening. Reina will go on until we get to the dorm. If she's in her best mood, she'll sit on my bed to continue, so I have to be the one who stops listening.

MICHAEL

The pen in my hand ends up being thrown across the room because I'm startled by my own ringtone.

The Alpha chose the sound. He says it keeps you alert. Well, it does, but I might end up with high BP soon.

I look at the phone and he's the one calling.

"Why did I even connive with his family to transfer him to this department? It's true he's going to suffer settling in but I'll be the one suffering forever" I mutter and the call ends.

I don't get to thank the Moon Goddess when the horrible sound begins to play again.

'Reeds, should I pick up?' I ask my wolf.

'Better do it before Ace mind-links me since you turned your mind-link off. And that ringtone is haunting me,' he replies and by now the call has ended again, but I wait for the third one and it comes immediately.

"This is the third time I'm calling, Mike," the Alpha says.

"No hellos? And I am sorry, I was busy," I say.

"Come to my office right now."

Okay, my question was ignored.

"I'm not coming," I respond.

"Michael, it's a command."

"We are not in your territory and I'm not coming unless you say hello."

"Beta Michael." His voice is hard.

"Alpha Regaleon." I wouldn't be his Beta if I bent easily.

He sighs and I know he's given up.

"I don't have time for this, dude. I found my mate."

That statement pushes me off my desk like itch powder has been poured on me and I rush to his office.

He's seated when I enter and he looks seriously troubled.

I also take a seat.

"She's human."

When that sentence leaves his mouth, I burst into laughter because now we are in this together, but I stop laughing when he talks again.

"She's already marked."

"What did you say??!" I shook

SKYLAR

"Aren't you done already? There's no Professor Michael there," I ask Reina who has decided to make us late for our dinner.

We decided not to eat from the cafeteria tonight and so we are going out of campus, but this particular Reina has decided that she'll not let us go on time.

I sit defeatedly on my bed because I know she just won't hurry up.

I take my phone and scroll through it while waiting for her.

"All done, let's go." I hear Reina say and I place my phone in the bed.

"Finally. Now where's Nyla too?" Becky asks. She's the last roommate and Nyla's friend.

Nyla comes out of the bathroom, not dressed and walking a little slower than before.

"I'm not coming."

"Is it because of me? I can stay for you to go," Reina says.

This is one of the rare moments in which she acts caring.

"No, Reina. You people should please go. I've suddenly gotten a stomach ache," Nyla says.

"Skylar, get me a burger with juice please," she continues.

"Nope, since you are sick, we will go vegan with all greens and some medications. See you."

I know Nyla isn't vegan but I don't care. She's sick and health first.

"Skylar, where's the assignment? I can't find it," Reina asks.

"I posted it. Check properly."

"I don't think you did because people are complaining as well." I check Reina's phone and it's true.

"I did post it so what happened?" I ask myself while looking for my phone, then I remember I didn't pick it up after leaving it on the bed.

"I forgot my phone. You two should wait, I'll be right back."

"Alright," Becky responds

I don't have to look at Reina to know she has an ugly expression on. I ran back to our dorm room.

I reach the room and push the door to enter, only to find Nyla on a call, all fine and even cursing. Then I hear my name. She's cursing me??
