Chapter 8The first thing that entered Elizabeth’s mind when she finally reached the majestic tree was if the gems stuck to it were real. She didn’t even notice the rocks scattered around its base, all in different sizes and shapes. She was too mesmerized by the colors emanating from the tree reflected by the glittering jewels stuck to it. “Diamonds, rubies and gems, oh my,” Elizabeth said, to the tune of The Wizard of Oz song. The sparkling lights reminded her of the enormous three-foot Christmas tree they set up together each Christmas—during the time when they were still happy.
