Chapter 2

Lance POV Sitting at the swing and watching Vincent calm me. My stress faded, and I felt happy. He's my constant happy pill and stress reliever without him knowing it. I wonder how he will react if he knows that I like him. Would he like it?  He's straight, I guess. He has a very beautiful and pleasant calming voice. I enjoyed watching him from a distance. A stalker, may it seemed, but I didn't care. I'm a fan and will never deny that I had a crush on him. I noticed him arranging the instruments. Thinking that Vincent would go home, I stood and decided to go home also. While walking the pathway, I received a text from my mom saying she was waiting in the parking area. I hurriedly went there, knowing my mom was a very busy person. I don't want to keep her waiting.  While on the way to the parking area, I saw Vincent talking to a short cute guy. He even covered Vincent's eyes.  I feel a slight pinch on my chest. I tap it slowly.  "Calm down, Ace. He is just your crush. Yes, just a crush. I am young. Maybe this is just a phase. I am fine. I'm fine," I keep on telling myself until I reach our car.  "Mom, I thought you were busy." I kissed her on the cheek.  "Not really. I've been waiting here for ten minutes now, son," Mom said I got in and sat in the passenger seat. "I stay in the garden, mom while waiting for the driver's call. So when I accepted your text message, I immediately ran here".  "The driver was with your father. He went out of town. Anyway, how's school?" "Nothing eventful happened." I looked away. I don't want her to notice that I am sad.  "As usual, that's your answer every time I ask you. Anyway, did you see Win today?" Win is my second cousin. We're not very close, though.  "Nope. Maybe he's busy. How's the hospital, mom?"  "Still the same—full of patients. But I am free now. And instead of resting, I'm thinking about you, so I'm here. But I am on call if ever an emergency happens." She pointed to her phone.  "Thank you, mom." I gave her a small smile.  We are a family of doctors. We pAcely own the Bangkok Medical Center. My mind is set that I'll work in the medical field in the near future, maybe as a nurse or a doctor. While my cousin, Win, wants to decide on his own to be a lawyer. Even though it's still early to make decisions, we will let our fate decide for us.  My thoughts stopped when I heard my mom's phone ringing. She pointed at me to answer it and turned the speaker on.  "Dr. Solitaire, speaking. . ." "Doc, code blue. We need you ASAP."  "I'm on my way."  Luckily the Hospital is near our school.  "Mom, go directly to the hospital. Code blue is very serious."  "I know. Seat belts, please. . . We're on speed." We arrived at the hospital, and mom hurriedly parked the car and ran inside.  I shook my head. She's on call, but she still manages to fetch me. I even asked the nurses in my mom's area of specialization, and they said that the patient she operated on had a cardiac arrest.  I feel sad. I understand that our lives will end one day, but what hurts more is leaving the people we love. Life is precious, so enjoy it.  I left a message on my mom's secretary and decided to ride a taxi to go home. Moments later, I arrived home safely. I changed my clothes and then tried to do my hoVincentorks, but my mind kept thinking about Vincent.  "Maybe, that's his boyfriend," I whispered. "Why do I care anyway?" I poked my head, feeling frustrated. Focus!  I finish my homeworks and notice that it is already dark outside. The house helpers kept on asking me to eat, but I refused. Feeling lonely, I decided to leave our subdivision and walked on the busy street until I felt thirsty. I went inside a 7/11 store and got something to drink.  I didn't expect to see Vincent inside. What a small world! He's still with the same boy I saw earlier. I tried to avoid them, so I walked fast through the line of fridges and got Sprite.  While grabbing one, a veiny hand and arm reach for the same bottle that I am holding.  His hand rested perfectly on mine.  "Oh, sorry!"  It is him!  His voice!  I faced him in a shocking state, not realizing that our faces were just inches away from each other.  I gulped. I can almost hear my loud heartbeat.  "Hey, Lance. It's you." He smiled at me and then reached three bottles of Sprite. "Come, let's pay for this."  He held my arm and grabbed me gently to the counter.  I simply take my arm back, afraid that his companion will see.  "No. I can pay for my own drink."  "I insist." Before I can say anything, he pays it and opens one, then gives it to me.  My face turns hot again. This is crazy. I'm acting like a schoolgirl who got noticed by her crush.  "Thanks, phi."  "No problem. Come, join us."  "No. I mean, is it okay?"  "Yeah, I'm with a friend." He held my arm again and guided me to the side tables.  "Phi, what took you so long? I almost finished my ice cream." The boy looks at us, but he stares at me long and at the hand of Vincent on my arm.  I subtly removed it.  "I just got something to drink. Here, this is yours." He gave the unopened one. And then he dragged another chair and motioned me to sit.  "Anyway, Ace, meet Lance. He is a newfound friend in the school. And Lance, he is Ace, my childhood friend."  Ace offered his hand to me. I accepted it for formality.  "Ace Ledesma, it's nice to know you."  He gave me a fake smile, and I swear fury was visible in his eyes.  "Lance Solitaire, likewise." I accepted his hand, and he gripped it hard.  He released it then turned to Vincent. "You promise me to Baskin Robbins, and look, you bring me here!" He seemed like he was having tantrums.  "Brat! What you're eating now is more expensive than B&R. That's Ben and Jerry." I silently watch them interact. I noticed they are really close. I'll join their conversation, and I clearly see Ace raises his brow on me from time to time.  I just kept my calm. I didn't do anything bad to him. Well, if he is a b***h. I am bitchier.  "Phi, it's late. Can you send me home?" I heard him whisper to Vincent.  "Okay, I forgot you have a curfew." Vincent laughed, and it almost echoed in the store. I laughed a little, and I couldn't help it. His laughter was contagious.  I stood up with them and decided to go home also. I walked first outside the store. I didn't bother to say goodbye to them.  "Hey, Lance! Come with us," Vincent offered, standing next to a sleek black Porsche.  "No, thanks. My house is near, just a few blocks away."  "Are you sure?" He stood in front of me and offered his phone.  "Type your phone number, just in case. I'll call you if you arrive safely."  Thinking there's nothing wrong with it, I typed my number. He pressed something on his phone, then my phone in my pocket rang.  "That's me. Save it and call me when you're home." He messes my hair and then winks at me before turning around to his car.  I just stared at his back. I can't believe that he smoothly asks for my number.  Suppasmooth (super smooth)  is now his new surname.  I smiled and walked home feeling happy.
