The following evening, another letter arrived. A guard brought it to my study and placed it on the table. "Alpha." I took it from him. There was no name on it. I opened it. You searched for your Luna for days. I continued reading. You should have searched harder. My eyes moved to the next line. She is dead. I stopped. For a moment, I couldn't move. I read it again. Your Luna is dead. My hand tightened around the letter. No. I looked down at the words again. There was more. We wanted you to know that she suffered before she died. My breathing became heavier. You failed to protect her. I crushed the letter in my hand. "Who sent this?" The guard lowered his head. "We don't know, Alpha." "Find out." "Yes, Alpha." I stood up. My mind was already somewhere else. Someone had killed my mate. Someone had taken her from my pack and dared to send me a letter about it. I wasn't thinking about searching anymore. I wanted them dead. "Get my Beta." The guard left immediately. I walked toward the window. Several packs surrounded our territory. I didn't care which one had done it. I would find them. And when I did, they would pay for what they had done. My Beta entered the room. "Alpha." "Prepare the warriors." He looked at me. "For what?" "We are going to war." He didn't speak. I turned toward him. "Find out which pack sent that letter." "Yes, Alpha." "And when you find them, I want everything you know about them." He nodded. I looked down at the crushed letter in my hand. Sepharena was gone. I had failed to protect her. But whoever had taken her from me had made one mistake. They had given me a reason to come for them. * * * My Beta returned later that night. He entered and closed the door behind him. "Alpha." I looked at him. "Did you find anything?" "We're still checking." I frowned. "How long?" "Not long." I stood from my chair. "I want the name." "We'll have it soon." I walked toward the table. The letter was still there. I looked at it again. I had read it too many times already. Every time, the same anger came back. My Beta stood quietly. "How many packs have access to this area?" "Several." "Which of them have had problems with us recently?" He thought for a moment. "The northern pack had a disagreement with the council last month." "Anything else?" "The western pack has been quiet." "And the southern pack?" "They've kept their distance." I nodded. "Keep going." "There is also the Blackridge Pack." I looked at him. "Why them?" "They've had issues with us before." I remembered the name. Blackridge. They had challenged our borders more than once. "Have they threatened us recently?" "No direct threat." I looked back at the letter. "Find out where their warriors were during the festival." My Beta nodded. "Yes, Alpha." "And don't accuse them yet." He looked at me. "We need proof." "Yes." He turned to leave. "Beta." He stopped. "If they have her..." I didn't finish the sentence. He nodded and left. I remained alone in the room. For the first time that night, I sat down. I looked at the letter again. Blackridge. I suspected them more. they had such audacity the last time we had problems. and their Alpha. such a knock head, he was from a family of rogues. I was going to kill whoever touched my mate. I used to be so feared , what changed. whatever that was I was going to make sure it never repeated itself.
