Chapter FourThe Dream:Sebastian

1531 Words
The moment Father Archie told them they would be visiting the neighboring pack, Sebastian had simply nodded. He had heard about the place before. Everyone in the town had. There had always been rumors about the enormous territory a few kilometers away. People called it a pack. They said wolves lived there. Real wolves. Not ordinary wolves. Werewolves. Sebastian had never known what to believe. Some people insisted the stories were true. Others laughed whenever the subject came up. But there was one thing everyone seemed to agree on. The leader of the territory was an Alpha. Sebastian had always assumed that was simply part of the local folklore. Until that morning. He sat quietly in the vehicle as they approached the pack’s borders. Father Archie was talking with Sam about the work they would be doing at the schools. Sebastian listened occasionally, but his attention was mostly on the scenery outside. Then they crossed the boundary. Something happened. Sebastian’s heart began beating faster. He frowned. His hand instinctively moved toward his chest. What is happening? His heartbeat wasn’t painful. It was simply…fast. Much faster than normal. He shifted in his seat. Maybe he was nervous. It was his first time visiting the territory. Maybe the stories had gotten into his head. He took a slow breath. It didn’t help. There was also a strange feeling in his stomach. Almost like nervousness. But it wasn’t exactly nervousness. He couldn’t explain it. “Are you okay?” Sam asked. Sebastian looked at him. “Yes.” “You look a little pale.” “I’m fine.” Sam nodded and returned to the conversation. Sebastian looked out the window again. He didn’t understand what was happening. ⸻ When they finally arrived at the pack house, Sebastian stepped out of the vehicle. And then he saw him. Alpha Kai. Sebastian had never seen a man like him. He was tall, powerful, and carried himself with an authority that didn’t need to be announced. There was something intimidating about him. But at the same time… Sebastian found him incredibly attractive. The realization shocked him. He immediately lowered his eyes. No. That thought shouldn’t even have crossed his mind. He was a man. Sebastian had spent years preparing himself for priesthood. He had a calling. A promise. A life dedicated to God. Finding another man attractive wasn’t something he had expected to experience. He quickly dismissed the thought. He’s simply handsome. That was all. There was nothing wrong with recognizing that someone was attractive. At least, that’s what Sebastian told himself. Then Father Archie introduced him. “This is Sebastian.” Sebastian lifted his eyes. Alpha Kai looked directly at him. Their eyes met. And Sebastian’s heart nearly stopped. Then it began racing again. Hard. Fast. Almost painfully. He swallowed. “Hi.” The word came out softer than he intended. Why was he shy? He wasn’t usually shy. He had spoken in front of hundreds of people. He had taught children. He had helped organize charity programs. He had spoken with bishops and priests. Yet standing in front of Alpha Kai made him feel like he had forgotten how to speak. Alpha Kai looked at him strangely. Sebastian didn’t understand why. Then the Alpha extended his hand. Sebastian took it. The moment their hands touched, something went through him. A strange warmth. A sudden pull. His stomach tightened. His heart raced even harder. He quickly released the Alpha’s hand. What was that? He looked away. Maybe he hadn’t had enough caffeine. Yes. That had to be it. He usually drank something caffeinated in the morning. Maybe that was the problem. Except that explanation didn’t make much sense. He knew his body. He knew what caffeine did. This was different. Still, Sebastian refused to think about it. He had work to do. ⸻ The school visit helped. Once Sebastian began teaching, his mind settled. This was something he knew. He had worked with children through charity programs before. He knew how to communicate with them. How to make lessons interesting. How to encourage shy students. How to listen when a child needed help. Within an hour, the classroom was filled with laughter. Sebastian smiled as one of the children proudly showed him a drawing. “That’s beautiful.” “I made it myself!” “I can see that.” The boy grinned. Sebastian laughed softly. For a while, everything felt normal. They worked throughout the day. The priests would be visiting the pack for several days, assisting with education, charity projects, and other community needs before returning to the church each evening. It was exactly the type of work Sebastian enjoyed. By the time they finished, he was tired but happy. Then they returned to the church. And the moment Sebastian was alone again… He thought about Alpha Kai. Again. He couldn’t understand why. He had met the man only once. Why was he thinking about him? Why did his heart race whenever he remembered their handshake? Why could he still remember the intensity of Alpha Kai’s eyes? Sebastian frowned. He needed to stop. ⸻ The apartment where Sebastian lived was part of the church’s residential facilities. Several priests and seminarians lived nearby, each with their own spaces and shared areas. Sebastian and Sam shared an apartment. When Sebastian walked inside, he immediately noticed Sam watching him. “Are you okay?” Sebastian looked at him. “Yes.” “You’ve been quiet.” “I’m tired.” Sam studied him. “Are you sure?” Sebastian smiled. “Yes.” Sam nodded. “Okay.” Sebastian went into his room. He closed the door. Then he sat on the edge of his bed. For several seconds, he simply stared at the floor. Alpha Kai. Why? He closed his eyes. He didn’t want to think about it. So he prayed. He asked God for forgiveness for the thoughts that had entered his mind. He prayed for clarity. For wisdom. For discipline. For the strength to remain focused on the path he had chosen. His prayer lasted a long time. When he finally finished, he felt calmer. He changed into his night clothes and returned to his room. Before sleeping, he prayed again. Then he lay down. His eyes closed. Sleep slowly took him. ⸻ He was standing somewhere unfamiliar. There was darkness everywhere. Sebastian looked around. “Hello?” No answer. Then he heard something. A low growl. He turned. And froze. A wolf stood several feet away. It was enormous. Much larger than any ordinary wolf. Its fur was completely black. Its eyes were intense. Sebastian should have been afraid. But he wasn’t. The wolf walked toward him. Slowly. One step at a time. Sebastian remained still. Then something impossible happened. The wolf changed. Its body shifted. Bones moved. Fur disappeared. And when the transformation ended… Alpha Kai stood there. Sebastian stared at him. He couldn’t move. Kai walked closer. Then Sebastian reached out. His hand touched the wolf’s fur again. Soft. Warm. Familiar. Sebastian smiled. And then— He woke up. He shot upright in bed. His breathing was heavy. His clothes were damp with sweat. His heart was pounding. Sebastian looked around his dark room. Nothing. No wolf. No Alpha. Nothing. He pressed a trembling hand against his chest. “What kind of dream was that?” He was terrified. Not because the wolf had attacked him. It hadn’t. The wolf had been calm. Almost protective. That somehow frightened him more. Sebastian got out of bed. He turned on the light. His hands were still shaking. Why had he dreamed about a wolf? Why had the wolf been black? And why had it turned into Alpha Kai? He sat down again. Maybe it was because of everything they had heard before entering the pack. Maybe his mind had simply mixed the stories with his memories of the day. That had to be it. There was no other explanation. Sebastian bowed his head. He prayed again. “God, please give me understanding.” He took a deep breath. “Please give me peace.” But even after the prayer… He couldn’t forget the dream. He couldn’t forget the enormous black wolf. He couldn’t forget the feeling of its fur beneath his hand. And most of all… He couldn’t forget the eyes. They had been the same eyes he had seen that morning. The same eyes that belonged to Alpha Kai. Sebastian slowly looked toward the window. The night was completely silent. Somewhere beyond the town, beyond the roads and the familiar streets, was the territory of the Shadow Wolf Pack. And somewhere inside that territory was the man who had occupied Sebastian’s thoughts all day. Sebastian didn’t know why. He didn’t know what was happening. He didn’t know what the dream meant. And he certainly didn’t know that the answer was something far older and more powerful than either of them could understand. All he knew was that, for the first time in his life, he was afraid of a dream he couldn’t explain. And no matter how hard he prayed… The image of the black wolf refused to leave his mind.
