Chapter Twenty-Seven:Sebastian

I had been thinking about the kiss far too much. An unhealthy amount, honestly. It had been hours since Kai had kissed me, yet somehow my mind kept returning to it. The way he had moved slowly. The way he had given me time to pull away. The softness of his lips. The warmth. The feeling of being held by my mate. Every time I remembered it, my face became warm. I would be reading a document and suddenly remember the kiss. Then I would smile. Then I would realize I was smiling and immediately look around as though someone might have caught me. It was ridiculous. But I liked it. I really, really liked it. The first kiss had surprised me. The second one had felt different. Maybe because I wasn’t completely afraid anymore. Maybe because I had started trusting him. Or maybe because I simply wanted it. That realization made me blush all over again. I had no idea how to kiss properly. Kai seemed to know exactly what he was doing. I had simply stood there while he guided the kiss, and somehow I had enjoyed every second of it. I wanted to learn, though. I didn’t want Kai to always be the one doing everything. I wanted to know how to kiss him back. I just had no idea where to start. Maybe I would figure it out eventually. ⸻ That evening, dinner was filled with conversation. Several Alphas from neighboring packs were expected to visit us soon for meetings. Mom had already given me a list of things I needed to prepare. There were accommodations to arrange, meals to organize, meeting spaces to prepare, and several community matters that needed to be coordinated before their arrival. It was a lot. But I was beginning to understand the rhythm of being Luna. After dinner, Kai and I went to his office. I sat across from him while he explained the upcoming visit. “Three or four packs will be sending representatives,” he said. “Two of the Alphas will be coming with their Lunas.” I nodded. “And the others?” “One Alpha will be coming alone. His Luna isn’t involved in pack affairs.” I made a few notes. “Are there any specific traditions I should know about?” Kai smiled slightly. “You’re already thinking like a Luna.” I looked down at my notebook. “I’m trying.” “And you’re doing well.” That simple compliment made me smile. We continued talking about the visiting packs, their expectations, and the meetings that would take place. Kai explained which matters would be discussed privately between the Alphas and which ones would involve the Lunas. I listened carefully. But occasionally, my attention wandered. Because sitting across from Kai, looking at him, I kept thinking about his lips. I wanted to kiss him again. Very badly. But I couldn’t bring myself to ask. What if he thought I was becoming too forward? What if I embarrassed myself? So I stayed quiet. Eventually, our conversation ended. “I should let you get some rest,” Kai said. “Good night.” “Good night, Seb.” I walked back to my room. I closed the door behind me. Then I stood there for a moment. And immediately remembered the kiss. I groaned softly. “Again?” Apparently, my mind had decided it wasn’t finished. I changed into comfortable clothes and sat on the edge of my bed. The memory came back again. Kai asking permission. Can I kiss you? My heart fluttered. I remembered nodding. Then his lips touching mine. Slow. Tender. Careful. I touched my lips unconsciously. The kiss in his office that afternoon had been different from the first. It had felt more natural. More intimate. Like we were finally beginning to understand one another. I smiled. Maybe this was what having a mate was supposed to feel like. Not something frightening. Not something I had to understand immediately. Just two people slowly learning each other. I still had so much to learn about Kai. And he had so much to learn about me. But for the first time since I had entered this strange new world, I wasn’t terrified of the future. I was curious about it. And maybe… Just maybe… I was beginning to look forward to the next kiss.
