Charlotte’s POV
“Did you know?” Mr. Crane’s low, monotone voice reverberated through the room.
“Know what?” Charlotte’s eyes darted around the room out of habit; having grown up as the one accused of making the most mistakes, her mind was constantly racing to figure out what she could have possibly done this time.
His eyes stayed fixed, unreadable but stern, like he was addressing a stranger and not his daughter.
“Your boyfriend is under investigation for embezzlement,” he stated.
Charlotte forced her face blank, but her heartbeat stumbled so hard she thought her father might actually hear it.
