Idris's POV
When I laid the idea on the table, I saw it hit her. Not in her words, but in the way her shoulders stiffened.
She stayed quiet at first, probably mentally weighing the pros and cons, and then a crack appeared in her composure. It was small but clear.
“My father would never...” Her tone was uncertain, almost scared.
She sighed, gathering herself; the “perfectly composed” Charlotte restored in place. “I’ll be direct; he’s greedy. With him, everything is either a competition or an opportunity.”
“He might seem reasonable, but he even keeps his own children at a safe distance because he’s scared someone’s going to try to outsmart him.”
