Chapter 2

By the time she got outside, Cerri had started to take over, the even center was on their land, so the house wasn’t too far away. She had just gotten to the forest when Grayson, Seth’s wolf, joined her. He must have noticed her slip away and she wondered if he had heard it too. The house was supposed to be mostly empty besides the warriors stationed to protect her father. She shed her wolf form and entered the house, keeping her pace as fast as she could. As she opened the door, she was suddenly hit by a powerful aura. A man is sitting by her father’s bedside and it takes her a few moments to realize who he is, the Lycan king. She quickly bows with her neck out, out of breath from the run and face flushed with the realization of what she has done. She stays there and listens as he slowly gets up and approaches her. “I apologize for barging in, I did not realize you had arrived, your majesty.” She had seen him a few times before when helping her father, large and devastatingly handsome but also terrifying. It was rumored that he had a hot temper and high expectations. As he got closer she could smell him, musk and rain, it was intoxicating. “You may stand.” His breath was hot against her neck as he loomed over her. She stood but kept her eyes downcast, terrified of what he might do if he were angry. He walked around her, scanning her up and down. She felt like an animal being appraised. “You must be the eldest, I can sense your Lycan blood.” “Yes, your majesty.” She stole a glance at him, he was handsome. If he were a kind man, maybe he would make a good partner, but as he is, he would only be good as a passionate lover. That was the problem with most men; most wanted control and Amelia needed her independence. As he rounded back in front of her, he took a hand and placed it under her chin, raising her eyes to meet his. It was quiet for a long moment as he stared into her eyes, seemingly looking for something. Her skin tingled in the place he had touched her, and she couldn’t help but think about him touching more of her. “He fell asleep a little bit ago,” he said as he let go of her face, “I was just about to go. I’ll leave you be.” He started his way out the door and headed to the guest room. She shivered as his aura left and she took a deep breath. You are lucky he wasn’t in a bad mood. Who knows how he would have reacted? Cerri growled at her. “I didn’t know he was here. Had I known, I obviously wouldn’t have barged in!” She hissed back. She walked over and checked on her father. He was breathing was labored and his face gaunt, he didn’t look like he would last to the next moon. Her heart ached to see him this way, Cerri whimpered. He was a good man and when he left she would have no time for mourning. She noticed he was shivering and grabbed the blanket at the foot of the bed, pulling it up and making sure he was warmer. “Amelia?” he asked in a hoarse voice and reached out a hand. “I am here, father.” She grasped his hand in hers, his fingers as frozen as ice. “Is the dinner over?” He asked a little more awake now. “No, father. I left early to ask you something. James gave a speech, he claimed he was excited for our packs to merge. You couldn’t have known they would try to take the pack from you.” She said a little too fast in panic. “It is not something I would wish for, but we may have no choice but to let it happen.” He said with a weak shrug. “There must be something we can do. We can’t just let our biggest rival take our pack and erase all the work our family has done, that you have done.” She grasped his hand a little more tightly, hoping he had some sort of plan. “You are unmarried, when I die the title will have nowhere to go but to Lucas. Our legacy will live on if only under a different name.” He took his other hand and held onto hers, his voice dripping with resignation. “I cannot let this happen. Why can I not be the Alpha? I could carry on the family name, the title.” She let go of his hands, not willing to give up everything. “You cannot bear the title, and you have yet to meet your mate. Had it not been for your grandfather, my father, I wouldn’t have this title to begin with. This is the way things are, we cannot change this.” He stared at her with glossy sad eyes, the bags underneath them revealing the sleep he had lost. “I have been looking for my mate. But, even if I can’t find them, why should this be taken from me? No, I will not let this happen. If we can’t change it, who can? I will talk to them, convince them.” Her father closed his eyes and sighed, “Darian, the Lycan king, is the only one who can give you the title. But, he won’t and you shouldn’t ask him.” At the mention of him, she felt goosebumps crawl across her skin. Could she ask him? What would he do to her if she did? What would he ask of her? She had to try, if she didn’t her family’s pack was gone. “Okay,” she kissed his head and repositioned the blanket over him, “I love you father, but you should rest. I am sorry to have disturbed you.” “I love you too, Amelia. Whatever happens, whether you find your mate or not. I will always love you, my darling daughter.” He slowly blinked, sleep starting to take him over once more. She gently closed the door and made her way down the hall. She must talk to him before anyone else comes home and finds out what she was planning before anyone can overhear the conversation they are about to have. Before she can knock, the door opens to Abraham, the king’s Beta. “State your business.” He lets out in a low growl, closing the door quickly behind him, protective of the king as and good Beta would be. His aura, while strong, was not as oppressive as the one coming from the other side of the door, the one she felt moments before. “I am seeking an audience with the Lycan king. I have a business proposal from my father, Samuel Alpha of the Golden Claw Pack.” She kept her shoulders back and head high. Yes, he was a full-blood Lycan and stronger, but she was not going to back down now. “No.” He said as he crossed his arms, barring her entrance to the room,
