"STOP!" My scream echoed through the room. Both men froze. The stranger's head snapped toward me. The moment our eyes met, the world seemed to stop. His grip loosened instantly. Max hit the floor with a loud thud, gasping for air. But the stranger didn't even seem to notice. He was staring at me. And for some reason, I couldn't stop staring back. He looked like something out of a storybook. Tall. Broad shoulders. Dark hair. Piercing eyes that seemed to look straight through me. Most men who looked at me made me uncomfortable. His expression became almost reverent. "And you are my mate." I forgot how to breathe. His mate? The words echoed through my mind. Mate. The one thing I had dreamed about my entire life. The one thing I thought might never happen because I didn't have a wolf. Damien took another cautious step forward. "What is your name, sweetheart?" His voice was gentle now. "And why are you in a place like this?"
