Frankie had the whole trailer to herself but lay in Bernie’s bunk. She could still smell Bernie’s shampoo on the pillow. Yesterday was the second worst day of her whole life. Yesterday, when they met up, Robyn was crying her head off. She was only allowed to stay long enough to say goodbye. Frankie flipped onto her belly, shame snapping through her. Robyn’s parents didn’t like Frankie because her mom was dead. Robyn’s parents didn’t like Frankie because she was scruffy. “But I never even met your dad,” Frankie said to Robyn. “I know, but he does whatever she tells him to,” Robyn sobbed.
