Frances and Reena sat in silence while the taxi raced along the Deerfoot heading into Calgary. “Have you missed it?” Reena asked. Frances shook her head. “It’s all very new here.” “Yes,” Frances said. They weren’t expected until the next morning and so they had some time to defrag in their hotel room. Frances was on the bed. Reena lay down beside her. “I think I’m having a heart attack.” Reena pulled Frances close. “You aren’t.” “We shouldn’t have come.” “We had to come.” “Well, it’s a total mindfuck.” Reena kissed her cheek and stood up. “I’ll pour us a little whiskey. Let’s just keep a low level in the blood for the rest of the day.
