Frankie lay in bed listening to her father’s truck sputter to life and then drive on out of earshot. Seven fifteen – Bern would be asleep for at least three more hours. She padded quietly to the kitchen, grabbed a box of Cap’n Crunch from the cupboard and poured it into a bowl. She’d heard Bern come in at ten after twelve last night, but by then her dad was snoring on the couch and didn’t even notice.
