The gophers were boring and wouldn’t come out of their burrows. Frankie and Robyn lay on the prickly grass looking at the sky, trying to see the bend of the Earth, but the sky was flat as a pancake. “It’s flat as a pancake,” Frankie said. “Flat as my chest.” Frankie turned her head toward Robyn. It was true; Robyn didn’t have any boobs at all. Frankie placed her hands on her own chest; she had two little bumps the size of apricots. “Your chest is nice,” Frankie said. “Yours is better.” “I guess,” Frankie muttered. Robyn took Frankie’s hand in hers and held it up toward the sun. “Blood sisters,” she said. Frankie tightened her hand around Robyn’s and shook their combined fist at the sun.
